New Balance‘s 992 Made in U.S.A. is often the canvas for a strong palette of colors, as its retro shape lends itself well to bold iterations such as this juicy purple version, the Concepts collaboration, or Joe Freshgoods’ “No Emotions Are Emotions” 992 which was recently seen in Steelo Brim’s Sole Mates. However, if there’s one thing New Balance also knows how to do well, it’s simplicity, having built a brand on well-made sneakers often found in its signatures shade of gray, or this mixture of “Gold/Brown/White” on the 992.
Made from soft pigskin suede, this tonal 992 differs from the usual construction because it doesn’t feature a mesh base, typically working areas such as the toe box and side panels. Instead, suede covers the entirety of the upper, working alongside leather details — notably highlighting the small “N” emblem — and a handful of contrasting suede sections highlighting the tongue and heel branding.
The result is one of New Balance’s most premium-looking 992 sneakers to date, which is only enhanced by the choice of colors beneath the upper. Here, the ABZORB-equipped sole unit appears in an off white hue and is offset with a gray outsole and black heel accents.
This particular New Balance 992 Made in U.S.A. retails for $344 USD and can be bought from Sevenstore now.
