CLOT FW21 Is Steeped in Chinese "DYNASTY"

CLOT‘s Fall/Winter 2021 collection is a more formal affair than most of its previous efforts, as co-creative director Edison Chen took the long-running label back in time for an expansive co-ed collection that draws from Chinese heritage. Suitably titled “DYNASTY,” the new lineup is informed by the same historic cues that informed the recently-released CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 “K.O.D. CHA”.

Showcased at Shanghai’s TX Huaihai Youth Energy Center as part of the label’s reinvigorated domestic push, the latest CLOT lineup draws from traditional Chinese textiles, silhouettes and patterns for the comprehensive selection, incorporating elements like embroidered patterns rich with imagery of dragons and phoenixes and plenty of lavish silk layering pieces.

Elements of contemporary streetwear complement the proceedings, infusing pajama-like sets and oversized hoodies with yin-yang patterns and generous plaids, while relaxed faux fur coats, printed bomber jackets and patched caps ensure easy crossover appeal. CLOT’s logo and conventional hardware — double zippers, buttons — mix it up with rope belts, frog buttons and woven accoutrement that dangle from belt loops like an old-school keyring.

JUICE STORE and select CLOT stockists will launch the new lineup later this year.

Themes of tradition have played a frequent role in recent FW21 presentations, ranging from KENZO’s celebration of legacy to KOZABURO’s monkish aspirations.
