Cadillac Will Release The All-Electric Escalade IQ Later This Year

Since Cadillac first introduced the Escalade in 1999, the super-sized, super-luxurious SUV has become a cultural icon. It’s been name-dropped in over 200 hip-hop tracks, and it’s appeared in films and TV from The Matrix to The Sopranos. Now, it’s heading into a new realm — one that’s fully electric. Earlier today, General Motors announced that the first all-electric Escalade would release “later this year.”

Dubbed the Escalade IQ, the new model will be the third EV in Cadillac’s lineup, joining the Celestiq (a luxury sedan) and the Lyriq (a mid-sized SUV). Details on the car’s design and features are sparse — General Motors’ announcement was a sparse two paragraphs and only included a single image — but it’ll likely use GM’s Ultium battery tech. The new vehicle should be available in a duo of sizes as well, with Cadillac trademarking both “Escalade IQ” and “Escalade IQL” (extended wheelbase) in 2021.

It’s also feasible to assume that the new Escalade IQ be a part of Cadillac’s 2024 lineup: Cadillac VP Rory Harvey said that the company would unveil three new EVs over the course of 2023, and that all three would be arriving as part of the same model year in comments to Car and Driver back in February.
