Balenciaga‘s creative director, Demna Gvasalia, has never hidden the personal whims that drive the designs he turns out with his team at the fashion house, channeling elements of Gvasalia’s youth and quirky gear uncharacteristic for a luxury house of its scale. As such, its hardly a surprise that Gvasalia has again partnered with metal band Rammstein for a capsule collection and curated playlist.
Gvasalia first partnered with the nearly three-decade-old group back when he was leading Vetements but the new partnership takes things a step further. The limited edition genderless capsule is more expansive, for one, with plenty of washed black layering pieces, hats and bags emblazoned with Rammstein’s logo and a previously unreleased outtake from a memorable photoshoot with Gottfried Helnwein, granting the apparel the feel of elevated merch. This corresponds with the accompanying photoshoot, which sees three lucky superfans outfitted in the new duds, showcasing the luxury gear alongside their immense Rammstein collections.
Furthermore, Rammstein has joined Balenciaga’s Apple Music playlist program, comprising 30 songs across two hours of music. Its a diverse affair, encompassing tracks from German new wave group Ideal, producer Vegyn, singer/songwriter Sharon Van Etten and Thom Yorke. Of course, there’s also a heaping helping of industrial bands, including Nine Inch Nails, Ministry and Rammstein’s own “Sehnsucht,” which inspired the original Vetements collaboration.
Rammstein’s curated playlist for Balenciaga is available now on Apple Music. The limited collaborative apparel is available for pre-order on Balenciaga’s website and global stores.
