Taiwanese label ANOWHEREMAN has released its Fall/Winter 2021 “The Fall Of Aristocracy” lookbook featuring a range of elegant jaquard and knitted pieces inspired by the last classic play “The Cherry Orchard” by Russian playwright Anton Chekhov.
The play is set in 20th century Russia which was experiencing socio-economic shifts including the rise of the middle class, abolition of serfdom, and the decline of the aristocracy. For a brief synopsis, Russian landowner Madame Ranevskaya returns to her family estate containing a large and well-known orchard just before it’s auctioned to pay the mortgage. Unwilling to pay to save the estate, the property is sold to a former serf, and the family leaves to the sounds of the cherry orchards being cut down. The story which symbolizes the decline in nobility and the rise of the proletariat is reflected in today’s rise in street fashion brands in recent years where ANOWHEREMAN finds its voice.
Items in the collection don a contemporary oversized fit and feature intricate jacquard woolen fabric and knitwear dressed in fall-friendly hues of black, gold, beige, grey, brown, sail, orange and burgundy. Highlights pieces include a faux fur suit jacket, jacquard shirt jackets and pants, knee-seam flared pants, a diamond-patterned black denim jacket, and a herringbone wool shirt jacket. Other items include detail knitted sweaters, overcoats, tunics, fabric drapes, scarves, and relaxed bottoms.
