1017 ALYX 9SM's Refined FW21 Collection Focuses on Clean Shapes

Despite having a full plate thanks to his work for Givenchy, 1017 ALYX 9SM founder Matthew M. Williams is never too busy to delve back into the label that brought him into the world of runways and high-profile collaborations. Fall/Winter 2021 is one of ALYX’s most refined offerings to date, stripping back accoutrement for a selection of refined silhouettes that balance the Italian brand’s classic codes with forward-looking design cues.

Bolstered by its signature rollercoaster buckles (including a new “Micro” version), the collection ranges from suits tailored by Caruso to loungey sportswear that ALYX die-hards have come to expect from the Nike-adjacent brand. Synthetic teddy lends cozy warmth to enormous, elegant suits, sporty jackets feature impressively deep dual-entry pockets and ribbed drivers knits feature a trim cut ideal for layering beneath the statement outerwear, which is in ample supply for FW21.

Shearling and inflated-looking leather jackets toy with proportion without throwing the body out of whack, while coat-length denim jackets and pooling slacks take shapes to the logical extreme. Despite the dynamic dyes and progressive cuts, neutral tones and approachable essentials promise versatility, matching the utility of ALYX’s transforming Ludo bag and new Mono Mule and Chelsea Boot.

Immediately before Williams oversaw the launch of ALYX’s latest, the Milan and Paris-based creative recently introduced Givenchy’s revamped Antigona bag series.
