Twitter Isn't Happy About Emma Watson Reportedly Retiring

After a report from The Daily Mail stated that Emma Watson would be stepping away from her acting career and her publicist confirmed that she is "not taking on new commitments," fans were understandably upset. E! News reports that Watson has been spending much of her time with her boyfriend (and maybe-fiancé) Leo Robinton, a Los Angeles-based businessman. They've been together since 2019.

Watson's last project was the Little Women adaptation back in 2019. The film was nominated for five Oscars and won one for its costumes. On her Instagram account, which has 59 million followers, her bio reads: "Emma's official Instagram page is currently dormant and is not being updated." Watson hasn't issued an official statement on the matter.

Fans reacted with disbelief and sadness. Some recounted some of Watson's memorable film moments, including her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series.

Page Six notes that there was some friction after the release of Little Women and that Watson didn't actively promote the film with her castmates, including Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, Laura Dern, Timothée Chalamet, and Meryl Streep.

"Emma's reps told Sony that she would only do the premiere," a source said. "We don't really know what happened, if she wasn't happy with the movie or fell out with the cast."

Watson has also joined the sustainability committee at luxury fashion conglomerate Kering, which oversees Alexander McQueen, Gucci, Bottega Veneta, and Saint Laurent.
