Former X Factor star Stacey Solomon, 33, has described how she “only has a few mates” – in contrast with the 5.4 million people who follow her on Instagram. The star revealed it was lockdown that really inspired her to embrace the online community and the world of social media.

Stacey opened up about her Instagram journey on the podcast Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe’s Parenting Hell a couple of weeks ago.

Rob asked Stacey if she felt there was a lot of pressure for her to upload a lot of home and family-based content to Instagram regularly.

Stacey is the host of the BBC show Sort Your Life Out, where she revamps cluttered homes in the UK with her team to change the way families live for the better.

Speaking to Rob and Josh about her use of Instagram, she mused: “I don’t think there is that much of a pressure because I don’t think anyone is that hooked on anyone else’s life.”

Rob quickly protested this, saying that she was just “being humble” and that people loved her “unbelievable” social media content.

The comedian then went on to point out the former singer’s millions of Instagram followers, naming her the “influencer of influencers”.

“I think it’s more casual than that, Rob,” Stacey explained. “I don’t think if I go off for a few days, people are going to be like, ‘Oh my life is over…’ You know?”

“I enjoy it,” Stacey continued. “It’s like a social life – I don’t have many friends!

“I don’t have many mates. I’ve only got a couple of mates from school and a couple of mates I’ve made in the last 10 years of whatever.

“But mostly, because our home life is so busy and our family life is so busy, you don’t even have time to nurture those friendships very much,” she added.

“So, I remember when we were in lockdown and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m just here on my own doing nothing!’

“Like it’s the weirdest, most bizarre thing – no stimulation for your mind, you’re not out working, you’re not out doing anything.

“So I just started going on socials more because so many people were in the same boat. And I just enjoyed it.”

Even if she doesn’t get to spend much quality time with her pals, Stacey doesn’t get much alone time thanks to her large family.

The star shares her home ‘Pickle Cottage’ with husband Joe Swash, 40, whom she met through ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!.

The couple tied the knot on Sunday 24 July of this year in an intimate ceremony at their home.

The pair, who got engaged when the actor popped the question on Christmas Eve of 2020, share a three-year-old son named Rex and one-year-old daughter, Rose.

The former X Factor star is also mother to Zach, 13, whom she shares with ex-boyfriend Dean Cox, and ten-year-old son Leighton, whom she shares with ex-fiancé Aaron Barnham.

Joe also shares a son Harry, 14, with his ex Emma Sophocleous, 37, whom he split from in 2008.
