St. Vincent Shares Video For New Single ‘Down’

St. Vincent recently released a video for “Down,” a track from her sixth album Daddy’s Home, which dropped on May 14 via Loma Vista.

St. Vincent, whose real name Annie Clark, released the visual she co-directed with Bill Benz, on Monday (May 10).

“You hit me one time, imagine my surprise/ You hit me two times, you got yourself a fight,” she sings in the opening lines.

“Tell me who hurt you – no, wait, I don’t care to / Hear an excuse why you think you can be cruel,” she sings in the second verse. “Mama always told / You got to turn the other cheek / But even she would agree / You’re an exception to that rule.”

“I’ll take you down / Yeah, I’ll take you / I’ll take you / I’ll take you down,” she sings in the chorus.

The singer previously released “Pay Your Way in Pain” and “The Melting of the Sun” from the upcoming album. She also performed the two songs during her appearance on “Saturday Night Live” in April.

St. Vincent explained at the time of releasing the first song from Daddy’s Home that the LP was inspired by her father’s release from prison for white-collar crime, as well as his vinyl collection from the ’70s.
