Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘to miss out’ on Met Gala amid Royal family drama

Despite fans hoping Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would be among the A-listers walking the red carpet at this year’s Met Gala, it's now been claimed the pair won't be in attendance.

The royal duo, who currently reside in California, could have been high up on Anna Wintour’s list of guests she wanted to invite, but their ongoing row with the royal family has reportedly stunted their chances of attending the prestigious affair.

The Met Gala takes place annually on the first Monday on May, with this year’s event set to take place just days before King Charles’ coronation.

With this in mind, it's also been claimed that even if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were to be invited, they are likely to turn the invite down as the event is so close to King Charles’ big day.

Discussing the matter, Jordan James, CEO of Unlocked PR told Mirror Online: “It certainly wouldn't come as a major surprise if they were snubbed given their current status within the Royal Family and the ensuing drama."

He added that the chance for Meghan and Harry to attend the star-studded affair could “boost their public perception in America".

Noting how close this year's Met Gala is to the coronation, Jordan went on to say that they probably wouldn't attend anyway.

“They aren't likely to attend as they will undoubtedly face scrutiny, no matter how hard they may try to minimise fallout," he said.

"Especially with how close this event is to the Royal Coronation.”

OK! has contacted the Duke and Duchess's representative for comment, as well as Anna Wintour's and Condé Nast Publications.

The Met Gala 2023 theme is Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty in tribute to the late designer who died in 2019.

Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton is stepping up to design the exhibition, with guests given “in honour of Karl” as the official dress code.

With decades worth of work to choose from, this year’s attendees could pick ensembles inspired by Karl’s work at fashion houses including Chanel, Fendi, Chloé, Balmain, Patou and his own brand.

Fans are always excited to see the Gala’s hosts, who, alongside Anna, are Penélope Cruz, Michaela Coel, Roger Federer and Dua Lipa.
