Continuing its latest buying spree, Merck Mercuriadis‘ Hipgnosis Songs Fund has acquired the catalog of Grammy-winning producer and writer Andrew Watt.
According to reports, Hipgnosis Songs Fund has acquired the Watt’s share of 105 songs, including hit songs like “Señorita,” “Peaches,” “Midnight Sky,” “Old Me,” “Havana,” “Take What You Want,” “Shameless” and more.
Watt has penned and produced songs for Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus, Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, 5 Seconds of Summer and many more.
Watt was also the producer of Ozzy Osbourne‘s album Ordinary Man, which was released on February 21, 2020. He won the Grammy for Producer of the Year on March 14, 2021.
“It is amazing to be welcoming Watt to the Hipgnosis Family just as he has been awarded the producer of the year Grammy for his work with Miley Cyrus, Post Malone et al, and as he has been No. 1 all over the world with Justin Bieber,” said Mercuriadis.
He added, “He is arguably the most important writer and producer in the world today and I don’t use those words lightly.”
Although Hipgnosis hasn’t disclosed the amount it paid for the publishing rights, reports suggest it could be north of $45 million.
Earlier this week, Hipgnosis revealed that it acquired Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ catalog in a deal said to be worth $140 million to $150 million.
The company also recently bought the publishing rights of Jimmy Iovine, Bob Rock, Shakira, Neil Young and Lindsey Buckingham, among others.
