Countdown favourite Carol Vorderman opened up about her battle while going for walks, as the radio personality dished on a “little secret”. The mathematician was swiftly inundated with support as she took to Twitter to share her health woes.

The 60-year-old often shares the details of her day-to-day life, as the presenter revealed she has been urged to wear supportive footwear.

It comes as Carol takes part in The Big Walk to support men in Wales with prostate cancer.

The mum-of-two shared a candid video as she prepared for her 26-mile walk this morning.

Sharing a clip of her footwear, Carol revealed that she has suffered knee pain as a result of having one leg longer than the other which made it challenging to walk long distances.

In view of her 463,000 followers, she penned: “Morning gang. Walked 10 miles to kick off the @pcbigwalk as #TeamCaptain for @ProstateCymr.

“Little secret…one leg is 5mm longer than the other (most people have this but don’t realise), so I put an orthotic in one trainer to stop knee problems. It works. I’m defo weird.”(sic)

Carol accompanied the tweet with a video as she explained she has to wear an orthopadeic heel wedge.

“So, I had one of those put in,” she explained, referring to the insole.

“I think most people have one leg longer than the other.”

Carol continued: “If you don’t have an [orthopaedic heel] in it can cause a lot of twists in the knee and it can give you pain from the knee up to your hip.

“I have had that for years and then realised that I’m a bit weird. Otherwise known as asymmetric.

“I prefer weird but there you go… a bit of a walking tip.”

While a fourth penned: “That’s not weird Carol, it’s very simple biomechanics. Glad the FFO (functional foot orthosis) is working for you.”

Carol replied: “I’m not weird… I think I should tell the children.”

The former Countdown star is taking part in The Big Walk, run by a Welsh charity, raising awareness for prostate cancer.

The initiative encourages participants to walk 26 miles during the month of July.

The challenge can be done in one big outing or broken down into more manageable smaller walks.
