Boris Johnson, 57, could clearly be seen maskless at the COP26 Summit while sitting next to elderly wildlife expert, David Attenborough. Former BBC Breakfast host Bill Turnbull, 65, took to Twitter to voice his disdain for the Prime Minister’s actions.
The former Classic FM presenter shared a picture of a maskless Boris sitting with his eyes closed whilst sat in a row of people wearing masks, which included Sir David.
The photograph appeared to leave him stunned, as he simply captioned it: “Mind. Boggled”.
Bill is known for hosting both Good Morning Britain and BBC Breakfast alongside Susanna Reid, before he recently stepped down due to his ongoing battle with prostate cancer.
A few of Bill’s 108,900 followers shared their conflicting views in the comments section below, with some feeling his post was less about the absence of Boris’ mask amid the Covid pandemic and more about the Prime Minister’s eyes being closed.
User @dianafoster333 wrote: “And a second later he opened them again, lets concentrate on what they achieve everyday and hopefully good will come out of this summit Bill.” (sic)
However, other people felt that it was all about the Prime Minister’s carelessness in forgoing a mask while sitting next to a very elderly gentleman.
@lala_preece wrote: “You know that wasn’t the reason for the tweet, no mask Mr Johnson and he’s sitting next to a 95 yr old, shameful and uncaring.” (sic)
“Eyes open or closed, doesn’t change he’s sitting next to the gem that is David Attenborough (who is 95) without a mask on,” @StephanieJay_UK agreed. (sic)
Bill also liked a tweet posted by @BillNeelyReport, which read: “The host of #COP26 and PM of a leading nation (and polluter) attending the most important climate change conference in years.
“Unmasked. And flanked by the attentive 72-year-old Sec. Gen. of the United Nations and 95-year-old Sir David Attenborough.
“@BorisJohnson sinks ever lower.”
COP26 organisers stipulate that ‘Blue Zone attendees’ – those in the UN-managed space which hosts the negotiations and is not open to all members of the public – should wear a face covering at all times, with exemptions including eating, drinking and medical reasons.

Boris Johnson also came under fire yesterday after it was revealed that an Israeli minister was unable to access COP26 in her wheelchair.
Karine Elharrar was forced to return to her hotel 50 miles away on Monday after waiting outside for two hours.
Speaking to Sky News on Tuesday, the minister said it was a “terrible” day before criticising the UN for preaching on accessibility but not implementing it.
Sir David personally addressed COP26 on Monday, telling world leaders to “turn tragedy into triumph” and that the world was watching.
So far, over 100 global leaders have pledged to halt and reverse deforestation and land degradation by the end of the decade.
Meanwhile, more than 80 nations have pledged to cut their methane emissions.
14 countries, including Denmark and the United States, have also backed a goal to reduce emissions from the global maritime sector to zero by 2050.
COP26 is the 26th United Nations Climate Change conference, which is currently being held in Glasgow, Scotland between October 31 and November 12.
