Yorkshire Shepherdess Amanda Owen, 46, fronts the Channel 5 series Our Yorkshire Farm along with her husband Clive Owen, 67, and their nine children. Here’s everything you need to know about the couple, including what Clive is known for and how they bought their farm.
Our Yorkshire Farm is currently airing its latest series on Channel 5, as it follows the goings-on at Ravenseat Farm.
The farming show is all about Amanda and Clive’s life as well as what their children are up to.
So far, viewers have watched as the pair have bought a new piece of farmland and their daughter Clemmy has started in school.
However, many fans of the show may be curious to learn a bit more about the family behind the screen.
Who is Clive Owen?
Clive is Amanda’s husband and father of their nine children.
The pair have been together since meeting in 1996 and tied the knot in 2000.
Clive was married once before this and also has two children from his first marriage.
Despite not hailing from a farming background, Clive has lived at Ravenseat for more than 25 years.
How did Amanda and Clive Owen buy their Yorkshire farm?
Amanda and Clive do not actually own their farm, located in Upper Swaledale, North Yorkshire.
According to an interview Amanda gave with the Home Page, they’re tenants on the farm, which has been used for 1,000 years.
Speaking about this, she told the publication: “You feel very temporary, like we’re just part of the bigger story before it’s passed on to someone else.
“Each of the buildings on the farm are named after people who are long gone, but whose memory lives on and it’s important to keep the heritage of the place going.”
Ravenseat is at the head of the River Swale and the holding has become an iconic location via the show.
The idyllic farm was already in Clive’s possession when he and Amanda first met.
Amanda opened up to the publication about her first impression of the farm in 1996.
She had been sent to collect a ram from Clive when she was working as a trainee shepherdess.
At the time, he was living alone after being divorced, which Amanda said “you could tell”.
She explained: “I’d driven there through 10-12 miles of nothing, and I mean nothing.
“There was just rushes blowing at the side of the road, the odd sheep crossing, I really didn’t know where I actually was.”
She added about the farm: “There’s just a lovely feeling and there’s so much history here.
“If I had a ‘perfect’ house, I would have some very unhappy children who were very busy trying to keep it perfect!”
Fans of the show can also stay at Ravenseat in usual times.
Accommodation is available in the farm’s Shepherd’s Hut as well as a local farmhouse called the Fir, which the couple owns.
However, currently, stays are suspended at the property due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
