A WOMAN has issued a travel warning after her hotel nearly gave her hotel room away – because she didn't check in early enough

Traveller Raeschel Kelly had booked to stay at a hotel in Pennsylvania.

Despite the check in time being at 3pm, she said she was called by the hotel at 4pm to see if she was still coming.

She said in her TikTok video: "The Marriott hotel just gave me a new fear I didn’t even know I should be aware of.

"They called me not even an hour after check-in (4pm) to see if I was still coming or they’d give my room away.

"This has literally never happened to me before, and I’ve checked in some places at midnight without letting them know ahead. Since when is this the norm?"

Despite this, she told Daily Dot that the hotel eventually marked her down as still arriving.

However, they would call her a "red-eye" arrival – despite arriving at the hotel at 6pm.

She added that she was going to be "nervous about hotels forever now".

The video has been watched more than 860,000 times on TikTok.

Some people were horrified at the rules.

One person wrote: "That's kinda wild! I drive 10 hours twice a year and always check into the same hotel around midnight, and they've never called me or gave me grief."

Another person said: "I have had this happen so I always let them know when I am checking in late. I also check in on the mobile app if possible."

People who claimed to work in hospitality also chimed in.

Someone said: "I worked for Marriott previously. They’ve oversold rooms & there’s probably none in the area to move ppl to so they’re trying to get cancellations."

A hotel spokesperson told Sun Online Travel: "As part of our commitment to provide elevated experiences to our guests, the hotel attempted to reach this guest prior to check-in to offer an upgrade based on loyalty status.

"This offer was not clearly communicated during return phone conversations with the guest, leading to the concerns shared on social media.

"At no point was her reservation at risk of cancellation. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused."
