With more than 300 sunny days a year, the warm weather and range of activities makes it a great hotspot for families as there really is something for everyone.

Ahead of half term, we've rounded up the 10 best activities and places to visit in Malta for families.

Three cities

Malta's three cities are made up of Birgu, Senglea and Bormla and are a must see for people wanting to experience some authentic Maltese culture.

Dotted along the Grand Harbour, visitors can wander along the streets and soak up the atmosphere, exploring the churches, cafes, and piazzas on offer.

Gozo

Malta is set across three islands: Malta, Gozo and Comino.

The island of Gozo is the most picturesque of the three, with quiet towns and beautiful beaches and is the perfect spot for Malta sightseeing.

The Citadella is the main attraction in the city of Victoria. The fortified city was recently fully renovated, and offers a great panoramic view over the surrounding countryside, villages, the sea and up to Malta.

Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon lives up to its name – it's a crystal clear blue lagoon on a white, sandy beach.

It's on the island of Comino which is the smallest of Malta's three islands.

The Blue Lagoon is a renowned tourist hotspot, with warm water all year round which is safe for kids to swim in.

Popeye Village

Popeye Village was built as a movie set for the largely-forgotten Popeye film starring Robin Williams.

Nowadays, actors in Popeye costumes still roam between the wooden buildings, but there’s plenty more for kids to enjoy.

These include water trampolines, boat rides and Santa’s toy town where Santa’s elves can be watched making toys.

Extreme sports

Adrenaline junkies can get their fix by taking on some extreme sports.

Kids and adults alike can take part in some daredevil activities including abseiling, freefalling and ziplining.

You'll also bag some amazing views while you're doing them – if you can dare to open your eyes.

Diving

With its clear blue sea and colourful reef, Malta is a great place to strap on some goggles and go diving.

Trails around the Archipelago are designed for all levels – from beginner to advanced.

And it's not just fish to see – divers can get up close to a 2,700-year-old shipwreck, a World War 1 battleship and dozens of plane crash sites.

Water sports

For those of you who want to get out on the water, but aren't ready for a full diving experience, there are a host of water sports activities available.

Malta has year-round warm water so there's no need to pack a wetsuit.

Activities include sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, all of which are a great way to explore Malta's shoreline and see some stunning views.

Hagar Qim and Mnajdra Temples

The Hagar Qim and Mnajdra Temples are the oldest free-standing temples in the world and date back to 3,600 BC.

They are a UNECSO heritage site and definitely worth a visit if you're in the mood for some history.

Cycling

Another great way to see Malta is to rent bikes and cycle along the coastline, including up the Dingli Cliffs, the highest point in the archipelago rising 220m above the sea.

Cyclists can also head over to Gozo to explore the island and take in the panoramic views from the top of the citadel of Victoria.

Food

No list would be complete without a tip off of where to get the best food in the country.

Seafood lovers are in for a treat as there are a whole host of harbourside seafood restaurants to choose from in the fishing village of Marsaxlokk.

The fish is about as fresh as it's possible to get and the restaurants are perfect for families.
