Whether you want to lounge on a white-sand beach, get a culture fix or party all night long, Miami’s a hot spot in every sense of the word.
From the moment you step off the nine-hour flight, you’ll notice a strong South American influence, from Cuban food to Latin music, street art and interior design. Plus, the tropical climate means it’s pretty much always bikini weather.
SIESTA IN STYLE
With a music-filled, art-deco lobby and a retro-inspired bar at its centre, you know you’re in for a good time at the Moxy Miami South Beach hotel. Rooms have enormous beds, walk-in rain showers and floor-to-ceiling windows for maximum sunlight.
There are even quad rooms with bunks if you’re travelling as a group. Start the day with a complimentary Cuban coffee, before lounging by the 72ft rooftop pool – join in the free poolside yoga on Saturday mornings (bliss in the sunshine).
Or you can hire a bike from reception to scope out the city on two wheels, free for two hours. If you’re a little worse for wear, tuck into the breakfast burrito filled with rice, beans, cheese, bacon and chorizo, £9.90, from the hotel’s all-day taco stand Los Buenos.

TRY A CACTUS COCKTAIL
Miami is famous for its food scene. At the hotel’s open-air restaurant, Serena, try the chicken enchiladas with melted cheese, £19.30, washed down with an obligatory margarita, £13.50.
Downstairs, low-lit Como Como specialises in seafood and steak, and its “secret” speakeasy has a banging DJ from Wednesday to Saturday.
They make a mean mezcal cocktail with the delicious liquor made from cacti.

If you fancy venturing out, Nikki Beach was the first luxury beach club in the US. You can wiggle your toes in the soft white sand while enjoying a large glass of their pale-pink rosé wine, £7.40 (Miami-beach.nikkibeach.com).
EAT YOUR ART OUT
The neighbourhood of South Beach is home to more than 800 art-deco buildings, with most protected as historical features.
Take a two-hour guided walking tour through the area’s rich architectural history, including the famous home of fashion designer Versace.
