Inside Disney’s brand new private island destination – with pink sandy beaches and Little Mermaid-themed area | The Sun

DISNEY has added a brand new private island to its list of cruise ship destinations.

Lighthouse Point will be the second private island for Disney, which they are opening following the success of Castaway Cay.

Located in the Bahamas, both of the islands will be served exclusively by Disney cruises.

Despite Lighthouse Point being first announced in 2019, the island retreat will finally open to holidaymakers in 2024.

The island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas is home to pink sand beaches.

While we're not certain the pink sand beaches will be part of the new Disney retreat, holidaymakers should be able to visit them with the help of local tour operators.

The new Disney retreat has been designed in close collaboration with local artists and advisors, in a bid to bring Bahamian culture to life.

Cruise guests will be able to visit the island's pristine beaches, where there will be activities to suit every holidaymaker.

On the east side of the island, there will be an expansive family beach, with market-style dining.

There will be a family-friendly water play area with two slides, water drums, fountains, and even a dedicated space for toddlers.

Other family-friendly activities include a gaming pavilion, a volleyball court, and a ball pit.

Holidaymakers will also be able to rent bicycles and watercrafts.

Disney Cruise Line counselors will also be on hand to keep children between the ages of three to 12 entertained at a themed Kids' club.

At the themed kids' club, there will be a splash inspired by The Little Mermaid as well as a dedicated dining area.

For those Disney fans travelling without children, there will also be an adults-only beach with a dedicated dining area and six cabanas available to rent.

There will also be 20 family cabanas available to rent along the south-western shore, as well as four double cabanas for larger groups.

Local tour operators will also take guests beyond Lighthouse Point to explore other parts of Eleuthera.

Other highlights on the island include walking along the Glass Window Bridge, and a visit to one of the island's many other beaches, including some with pink sand.

Further details about the Disney retreat, such as signature entertainment, dining, retail, and excursions, will be released at a later date.

Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager at Disney Cruise Line, said: "At Disney Cruise Line, we have a deep appreciation for the Bahamian community.

"We are connected in many ways, including our shared values of storytelling and hospitality.

"With the opening of Lighthouse Point, visitors from around the world will experience the magic of The Bahamas in a new way, one that truly celebrates its natural and cultural beauty."

Castaway Cay, Disney's first private island opened in 1998, and was the first private island in the cruise industry.

The island is included in most of Disney's cruise trips, with the five-strong fleet including ships such as the Disney Dream and Disney Wish.

The 3-mile-long destination is meant to resemble an abandoned island, with fake plane wrecks and metal batten restaurants.

It also hosts a 5k Disney race, as well as an adults-only beach of its own called Serenity Bay.

Earlier this year, Disney announced its first-ever cruise that will set sail from the UK.

The Disney Dream cruises will offer three, four, five, and seven-night voyages departing directly from the UK in 2024.
