Easter staycation bookings are booming AGAIN this year & Brits are warned that hotspots are selling out for summer

STAYCATION holidays are to remain popular for another year as more Brits book their caravan and camping breaks in the UK.

UK holiday bookings soared during the pandemic after travel restrictions meant families were unable to go on a trip abroad.

However, while many of these restrictions are being lifted, staycations are still seeing huge demand during the Easter and summer holidays.

New figures from the Camping and Caravanning Club reveal bookings for their 100 sites are up 33 per cent compared to Easter 2019 pre-pandemic.

This is also one of the first years of restriction-free staycations, after Easter 2020 and Easter 2021 breaks were either limited or banned.

Simon McGrath, the Camping and Caravanning Club’s head of communications, told the Guardian: “Easter is a really popular time for camping that signals the start of the season.

“This year looks certain to make up for lost time with strong bookings and a significant increase in the number of campers heading to our sites.”

Half term bookings also boomed – Sykes Holiday Cottages revealed bookings for February half-term were up 27 per cent versus 2020.

And Awaze, which owns Hoseasons and cottages.com – two of the biggest holiday letting websites – said bookings for this summer were up 82 per cent compared with the same point in 2019 for 2020's summer season.

Graham Donoghue, CEO at Sykes Holiday Cottages, said: “The staycation boom is here to stay.

"While bookings for February half-term have been record-breaking, we expect Easter and summer to be no different, and bookings are already coming in for autumn and winter thick and fast."

Experts have warned Brits who are thinking of a UK break to book it sooner rather than later.

Steve Jarvis, co-founder of Independent Cottages, said: “Last summer saw huge demand for UK holidays, with demand often far exceeding supply, and everyone that I speak to in the industry agrees that 2022 will be another busy year.

"However, some holidaymakers are likely to face the same availability problems as last year if they leave it too late to book.
