Sleeping on a plane can be notoriously tricky.
Unless you’ve invested in a great travel pillow (or you’re in first class with a seat that converts into a bed), finding a comfortable position – and staying in it – can be tough.
But terrible sleep on flights will soon be a thing of the past for many Air New Zealand passengers.
This is because the airline has launched some new sleep pods for economy passengers.
Air New Zealand has just unveiled eight new Dreamliners – set to take to the skies in 2024 – and an exciting new feature on these vessels is the ‘Skynest,’ which lets customers sleep flat for their journey.
There will be six of these beds in total per plane, which economy passengers can book for four-hour slots on long-haul flights.
Each bed includes a privacy curtain, USB charging and ventilation outlets and can only be booked once by a customer during a flight.
However, the cost of booking these special beds is yet to be announced.
Air New Zealand chief executive officer Greg Foran said: ‘New Zealand’s location puts us in a unique position to lead on the ultra-long haul travel experience.
‘We have zeroed in on sleep, comfort, and wellness because we know how important it is for our customers to arrive well-rested.
‘We wanted to offer our economy customers a lie-flat option and that’s how Skynest was born.
‘It’s going to be a real game changer for the economy travel experience.’
The airline has also added care stations to Premium Economy and Economy cabins – so passengers can stretch their legs and refresh with food and drink throughout the flight.
