18 of the most gorgeously romantic hotels in the UK

Looking for a romantic hotel for when hotels open on 17 May? Well look no further…

Weekends were made for stealing away with someone special, and when planning a romantic staycation the devil is absolutely in the details.

Impressing your other half and ensuring that your chosen hotel is as seductive as you’d envisioned, takes a lot of time and research, but luckily for you there’s plenty of places around the UK that should fit the bill.

Whether you’re looking to slip between the sheets in Aphrodite’s boudoir, Byron’s lair, or er, Christian’s playroom, Britain has a range of avant-garde hotels diverse enough to satisfy everyone’s needs.

Although there’s a bit of something for everyone, when it comes to romantic hotels certain themes do tend to emerge. Expect lots of rich, luscious fabrics like flowing velvet and silky bed sheets, an abundance of free standing baths and of course, four poster beds aplenty.

So treat your partner to some quality time and do it in style with some of these glorious suggestions below.

  • Flemings Mayfair, London

Most romantic hotels in the UK: Flemings Mayfair

Tucked away on arguably one of London’s loveliest streets, Flemings Mayfair is both a stone’s throw from the lush Green Park and iconic landmarks like Buckingham Palace, and the quaint bistros and bars of the area.

The hotel feels like a five-star experience from the moment you step inside its polished lobby where you are assisted by the friendliest of staff, who will show you to your luxurious room. Choose from a deluxe single, classic double, deluxe double or executive king for your stay and while the room sizes may differ, the standard of the decor doesn’t.

Think velvet upholstery in rich, jewel colours, large windows and private patios for lots of natural light and statement lighting, such as huge, modern chandeliers.

While staying at Flemings Mayfair means being in a great spot to explore west London, we’d thoroughly recommend trying the hotel’s restaurant which is known as a neighbourhood gem. Ormer is currently lead by executive chef Sofian Msetf, who has worked in some of the best Michelin-starred restaurants in the UK. Make time for a tasting menu experience with a wine pairing and we promise you won’t regret it.

Plus, if you fancy squeezing some pampering into your stay, the hotel has just partnered with renowned practitioner and facialist, Pietro Simone, to launch a R&R staycation package. This deal includes a deluxe double room, continental breakfast and a bespoke one-of-a-kind treatment such as a signature deep tissue dry massage or bamboo body tapping.

  • The Milestone Hotel, London

    The Milestone

There is only a selection of venues in London which have the old school charm of The Milestone Hotel.

With a location looking out across Green Park and over to Buckingham Palace, its very position has that magic London-factor which feels so special to both tourists and locals. Inside, prepare for some of the best service of your life as every employee is thoroughly trained and passionate about the hospitality industry, with the attitude that nothing is too much effort. In fact, take a peek inside the hotel’s in-room booklet and you’ll read stories of some of the most extravagant demands they’ve ever received and what they did to ensure their guests had everything they needed. We won’t give too much away, but one unnamed celebrity requested a grand piano in their room just for their stay, and the hotel delivered.

Downstairs, each room is a pleasure to explore, with interesting details like stained glass windows giving away the character of the old building. But as well as period features, the interior design team has transformed each area into something unique – from the cigar lounge-style Stables Bar which is perfect for cosying up late into the night, to the glamorous Conservatory where afternoon tea is served.

It’s upstairs, though, where things really get exciting. Every single room at The Milestone Hotel is uniquely designed, which means you won’t see any cookie-cutter bedspreads or manila walls here. In fact, suites even have specialist themes such as the Meghan Markle room, which was created to reflect the former Duchess’s favoured colour palette and sophisticated style. Fashionistas will love the Hermes room, shown above, where impressive coffee table books of the fashion house’s works lie about the room and the brand’s famous scarves are framed on the wall.

Plus, if you’re organising your trip in light of a romantic occasion, just let the team know and they can organise real rose petals to be scattered on your bed, chocolate hearts and chocolate dipped strawberries to be put in your room and offer in-room drinks and gifts to treat your other half.

    Adare Manor

Okay, so this one isn’t technically in the UK, but it is just a hop, skip and jump away – and frankly too gorgeous to not be included. • The Grovesnor, London

    The Grovesnor

The Cora Pearl Suite at London’s Grosvnor Hotel is named after a famous courtesan, at one point the toast of Paris with several wealthy lovers. In the 1870s she visited London and booked a suite at The Grovesnor (we won’t say who she was visiting, but Buckingham Palace is very close by). The hotel refused her entry. They’ve made up for it now though, the suite that bears Cora’s name has a beautiful free-standing bath, a chaise lounge and is decorated to look like a boudoir.
