Royal equestrian and horse lover Zara Tindall looked focused as she showed off her skills to compete today.

Princess Anne’s daughter, 42, took part in The Wellington International Horse Trials in Heckfield earlier this morning.

The competition, which doubles as a county fair, had a three-day stint that kicked off on August 26.

Each year, the event attracts a string of high-profile riders who often contend in international-ranking classes.

The mother-of-three is an impressive international equestrian competitor, having garnered a gold medal at the European Eventing Championships in 2005 and a silver medal at the World Equestrian Games in 2006.

As she rode, Olympic silver-medalist Zara looked sleek in white trousers, a double-breasted fitted navy blazer with tails and a high-collared shirt.

The royal was riding her prized grey gelding, Classicals Euro Star, as she competed on the last day of the dressage and jumping trials.

It sported a formidable pair of pointed brown horns in a knitted hat alongside a neatly plaited mane.

The royal’s sportsmanship is recognised nationally, and in 2006, she was crowned BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year.

Zara, who is married to former Rugby Union player Mike Tindall, 44, regularly competes in equestrian events.

Earlier this month, the happy couple were pictured at the Epsom Derby together.

During the event, Animal Rising protestors endeavoured to bring the races to a halt. But Zara made a rare intervention and urged them to stop their movement.

She said: ‘They [the protesters] speak about what they believe in… but do [they] completely understand what [they’re] talking about?’

Meanwhile, Mike implored the activists to ‘go and spend a bit of time at professional yards’ to see the treatment the animals receive.

As the couple basked in the sunshine at the races, Zara looked chic as ever in a white midi dress with black stripes, topped with a coordinated hat boasting a black and white cockade.

Meanwhile, Mike opted for a traditional morning suit, wearing grey trousers under his black tailcoat – and a black and white stripy tie to match his wife’s dress.

The couple appeared to enjoy their day at the Surrey racecourse and were snapped smiling as they posed together.

And Zara was seen enjoying a glass of wine at one point, as well as watching the action intently.
