Prime Minister Scott Morrison was confronted by an angry activist last night at a sports club in western Sydney as he hosted a private event for the travelling press pack.
The young man, who appears to be a Labor supporter on his social media accounts, can be seen on video screaming “you are a disgrace” at the Prime Minister after confronting him inside The Rowers club in Penrith.
“Across the Nepean river people lost their houses and they were burnt,” the man yelled, referring to the black summer bushfires of 2019-20.
He was quickly removed from the venue by police and later uploaded the footage to social media site TikTok, where he describes himself as a political activist.
The video shows the man approaching Morrison and asking for a photo and identifying himself as a local from the nearby Blue Mountains. His social media accounts include images of him attending a Labor forum and supporting Labor MP for Macquarie Susan Templeman.
When Morrison realises the man is recording the exchange, he informs him: “This is a private event. I’m hosting drinks for the media event.”
Labor leader Anthony Albanese also held drinks for media outlets covering his campaign on Monday night.
It is the second incident of its kind that Morrison has faced in the past week, where the request for a selfie has been used to heckle the Prime Minister for the purpose of circulating the footage on social media.
Last week, a young woman approached Morrison as he greeted patrons at Edgeworth Tavern near Newcastle, NSW, leaning in for a selfie but recording the interaction as a video which she later uploaded to Twitter.
“Congratulations on being the worst Prime Minister we’ve ever had,” she says as Morrison leans into the shot.
In a separate incident at the same pub Morrison was also heckled by a pensioner.
