FLIP FASHION TRENDS

It’s a strange quirk of fashion. When the sun is out and the flowers are in bloom we float around in floral prints; but now, as the evenings close in and we could really use some cheering up, we dress in drab grey and black to match the weather.

We’ve got it all wrong! This year let’s flip it on its head and treat yourself to some late bloomers.

GROWN-UP PRINTS

I’m not talking about twee, chintzy florals, with cornflowers and daisies. I prefer my moody and serious. Look for strong autumnal colours — greens, golds, oranges, on a black or darker coloured background. It should feel grown-up.

Turn to Prada and its floral print cotton-sateen gown, Erdem’s pleated voile midi or Dolce & Gabbana’s pussy-bow si k-georgette design for inspiration. Then hit the High Street for affordability.

STYLE IT UP OR DOWN

The floral print looks great peeking out from a heavy winter coat or layered under a chunky knit. I’m wearing this oversized design with a traditional pair of courts for a smarter look, but in real life I wear mine with chunky-soled boots or loafers. And socks. Try it — you might like it!
