Out of all the events that have happened in February 2021, Bobby Shmurda’s early release from prison is a major one.
The New York rapper served six years on a seven-year sentence with conditions in place for his parole, but he’s looking forward to dropping new music. Fellow artist Quavo was on hand to pick him up and is already talking about collaborating.
Obviously, Bobby Shmurda’s incarceration has had an impact on his ability to work, but here’s a look at his current net worth.
Bobby Shmurda inked a record deal in 2014
Bobby Shmurda first caught a taste of fame on Vine and YouTube when he released a self-made video for his song, “Hot N***a” in 2014.
He quickly went viral online, racking up more than 3 million Vine views and launching the trademark Shmoney dance. The single and the dance took on a life of its own with everyone from Beyoncé to athletes to soldiers hitting the move when the beat dropped.
At the time, the video ran up YouTube views to well above 10 million, and now stands at close to 700 million.
By July 2014, 20-year-old Bobby Shmurda signed a record deal with Epic that was worth seven figures, according to the New York Times. With his popularity on the rise, he also snagged performances on Jimmy Fallon’s show and at the 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards.
Upon his arrest on conspiracy, weapons, and drug charges, the label stepped back. During his interview with the NYT, he expressed disappointment in Epic for not helping him out with bail or other means of support. “I’m going to try my best to go back on the deal,” Bobby Shmurda said. “If not, I’ll give them their music and bounce.”
According to his attorney, the rapper received an advance on his deal, and he believed Epic made that money back many times over.
And Bobby reiterated his point in a 2015 interview from jail with Billboard where he said once he got out, he wanted to wrap up his deal with Epic. “I’m starting to feel like a slave now,” he said.
What is Bobby Shmurda’s net worth?
Before his arrest in December 2014, Bobby Shmurda released the EP Shmurda She Wrote and started doing some tour dates. He even hopped on stage as a guest during Drake’s show.
Since his release, both “Hot N***a” and “Bobby Bit*h” have gone platinum. Additionally, Bobby Shmurda’s EP and his “Computers” single with Rowdy Rebel went gold.
Other rappers in his inner circle are looking out for him, and there a few videos circulating that show him receiving stacks of cash from his friends. Bobby Shmurda has also amassed a huge following on Instagram which will undoubtedly be a tool to help him promote new music.
With that in mind, Celebrity Net Worth has his current fortune sitting at $400,000, but it’s expected to increase exponentially now that he’s back in the game.
In his first post-prison interview, he told GQ he has plans to get into real estate and other ventures and is looking forward to getting rich. Fans should be on the lookout for new projects from Bobby Shmurda.
