It may be surprising that surgical treatments can still be affected by trends and ‘what’s fashionable.’
However, experts told FEMAIL that while people are often influenced by new fashions, celebrities as well as social media, there is definitely a move towards more natural treatments in the aesthetics world.
Dr Paul Banwell predicts that in 2023, people will move towards seeking a much more natural look and to look after themselves from the inside out.
Yet, he still expects the number of surgeries taking place across the UK to rise now the pandemic has eased.
In 2023, it is predicted that people will move towards seeking a natural look. Dr Paul Banwell and Dr Elizabeth Hawkes predict cosmetic trends for 2023
He said: ‘Many of my patients just want little adjustments to improve their confidence – ones which are barely noticeable to those around them but give an overall impression of natural beauty.’
Dr Elizabeth Hawkes, a consultant oculoplastic surgeon, specialising in blepharoplasty, eye surgery and advanced facial aesthetic, agreed, saying she specialises in helping her patients to look and feel their best, through good skin care.
She said: ‘It’s about rejuvenation and moving away from anti-ageing towards age-management.
‘My clients want to look and feel their best at the age they are, rather than trying to stop the ageing process.’
2023 TOP SURGERY TRENDS- PREDICTED BY THE EXPERTS
Breast augmentation
Kate Hudson is a good example of a natural breast augmentation. The size chosen is suitable for her frame and they look extremely natural
Dr Banwell revealed that breast augmentation will still be popular in 2023 and continues to be the most common surgery he performs.
He explained: ‘But I think I will see more clients coming to me to change previous breast surgeries, which have looked too large for their bodies or too fake and the natural silhouette is definitely what clients are look for.
‘Personally, I’m seeing a rise in the desire for a shapely but incredibly natural result.’
Times have changed from when ‘boob jobs’ were about getting the biggest and most voluptuous look possible, nowadays women want to achieve a more natural subtle look.

Liposuction
Cardi B revealed she had liposuction on her tummy after having birth, with the experts predicting this will be a popular treatment for new mothers
Cardi B revealed she had liposuction on her tummy after having birth, which according to Dr Banwell is a popular treatment for new mums.
‘I think we will see a growth in liposuction. People are looking for long-lasting procedures and the contouring for liposuction is usually permanent,’ explained Dr Banwell.
The procedure is designed to reduce localised deposits of body fat when diet and exercise are not addressing the problem.
The surgeon describes the treatment as ‘one of the cornerstones of body contouring surgery.’
However he warned: ‘While it is not a treatment for overall obesity and should not be viewed as a weight reduction procedure, it has an effective way to improve the shape of a patient’s body, such as the hips, waist, calf, ankle, stomach, thighs and breasts, buttocks and love handles.’
Blepharoplasty and brow lifts
I’m a Celebrity Australia host Julia Morris has had a brow lift and eyelid surgery, which the experts said had helped her appear more bright and round
I’m a Celebrity Australia host Julia Morris has said she had a brow lift and eyelid surgery to enhance her face, and deliver a youthful glow.
Dr Hawkes commented: ‘The before and after photos are amazing. Her eyes look bright and round and her crows feet have visibly vanished.’
The consultant oculoplastic surgeon believes that we will see a bit of filler fatigue as people move more towards blepharoplasty and brow lifts, as people realise the limitation of filers and that if you have too many, you just ‘look strange.’
She explained: ‘Blepharoplasty or a brow lift is much longer-lasting and enables a natural-looking facial rejuvenation.
‘Blepharoplasty is a type of surgery that repairs droopy eyelids and may involve removing excess skin, muscle and fat. As you age, your eyelids stretch, and the muscles supporting them weaken.
‘As a result, excess fat may gather above and below your eyelids, causing sagging eyebrows, droopy upper lids and bags under your eyes. Besides making you look older, severely sagging skin around your eyes can reduce your side vision (peripheral vision), especially the upper and outer parts of your field of vision.
‘Blepharoplasty can reduce or eliminate these vision problems and make your eyes appear younger and more alert.’
Labiaplasty and Mummy makeovers
Both Kim and Khloe Kardashian have spoken out about vaginal rejuvenation. They have talked about improvements to their sex lives as a consequence of the treatment
‘The Mummy Makeover has always been popular,’ said Dr Banwell, who is a world expert on surgical female genital cosmetic surgery procedures.
Both Kim and Khloe Kardashian have spoken out about vaginal rejuvenation. They have talked about improvements to their sex lives as a consequence of the treatment.
Dr Banwell commented: ‘I think we will see more women coming forward to labiaplasty surgery as women want to feel comfortable in their bodies.
‘In 2022, I saw a 300 per cent increase in treatments for labiaplasty, which is partly due to the increasing popularity of ultra-tight sports leggings and extreme swimwear.
‘Patients are concerned about their vulvas after experiencing discomfort in sports wear.’
He said that most of the women he sees are seeking labiaplasty to fix discomfort while wearing tight clothing rather than undergoing the operation for aesthetic reasons.
A move away from anti-ageing to looking and feeling your best at your age
Drew Barrymore is an advocate for looking her age. The actor, 47, said in the July 2017 issue of Allure: ‘Beauty is truth in the way you age. There is no question no one wants to look old’
Dr Shirin Lakhani, a cosmetic doctor and intimate health specialist, of Elite Aesthetics, said she has seen people moving towards a more holistic approach to ageing.
She said: ‘It’s not about anti-ageing anymore but looking and feeling your best whether that’s through good skin care, your beauty regime or intimate health.
‘It’s about rejuvenation to be able to live life to the fullest, rather than how you look.’
People are leaning more towards the overall long-term approach of optimal skin, physical and mental health solutions.

‘And yet it’s a battle I choose not to fight because you can’t win. When I look at women who have not messed with fillers or Botox, I love looking at their face[s].
‘I love the grace and the story that women are telling by aging naturally. I would rather live my life accepting what comes.’
Dr Lakhani detailed approaches such as nutritional advice and supplements, hormone replacement, lymphatic massage, intimate health solutions and biostimulatory skin treatments as holistic ways to achieve contentment in your own skin.
An increase in men coming for plastic surgery
Simon Cowell has been very open about getting work done in recent decades. He started with Botox and in 2018 he had a facelift
Dr Banwell said he is seeing a significant increase in enquiries from men for cosmetic surgery and can only see the trend continuing in 2023.
Gynecomastia correction, the reduction of breast tissue in males, has become increasingly popular, according to Dr Banwell, as well as face lifts.
He said: ‘More men are talking about it too and it is becoming less stigmatising. Just last week, I had three men in for face lifts and I know lots of other surgeons who are treating more men too.’
‘Simon Cowell has been very open about getting work done in recent decades,’ said Dr Banwell. ‘He started with Botox and in 2018 he had a facelift.’
And Dr Hawkes agreed, saying in 2022, she saw a 200 per cent increase from men for blepharoplasty surgery.
She said: ‘There is absolutely more pressure for professional men to continue to look younger to be competitive in the workplace – even on Zoom.
‘I’ve seen a 200 per cent increase in the number of enquiries from men for cosmetic blepharoplasty surgery in the past six months.’
Younger patients coming for treatment in their 30s and 40s
Vogue Williams is a fan of Profhilo, an injectable hyaluronic acid based product for treating skin laxity, boosting and hydrating the skin
Rather than looking to change the signs of ageing that were already there, younger clients are looking to take a proactive approach to prevent some of the issues occurring in the first place.
Dr Banwell explained: ‘Getting regular treatment earlier in life reduces the work that needs to be done in the future. People are looking to have less-invasive work earlier.’
Dr Hawkes agreed, saying that younger patients are looking towards treatments such as injectable hyaluronic acid, such as Profhilo.
She says that ‘this is one of our most popular treatments as it gives patients a natural glow and rejuvenated appearance.’
‘Vogue Williams is a fan of Profhilo,’ said Dr Hawkes. ‘She looks super fresh and says it makes her skin feel so good.’
