After firstannouncing that they were expecting a baby together back in February, formerStrictly Come Dancing starsJanette Manrara and husbandAljaž Škorjanec have now revealed that they have welcomed a baby girl into the world.

The Strictly couple, who tied the knot back in 2017, took to Instagram to share the happy news by posting a black and white snap of their new family of three at the hospital. But in addition to introducing the world to their baby girl, the pair also revealed that they’d called their daughter Lyra Rose.

Alongside the adorable photograph, they wrote: “Lyra Rose Skorjanec July 28, 2023” alongside a rose emoji.

With the couple’s dancing career heavily dependent on music, it seems that their daughter’s adorable name has a very special meaning for the new parents.

According to baby naming websiteThe Bump, the name Lyra is of Greek origin and is rooted from Orpheus's legendary lyre, which is a small instrument similar to harp.

As per the myth, Orpheus would play music that was so beautiful that it caused gods, trees and animals to start dancing – making it the perfect name for Janette and Aljaž’s little one.

But besides its musical connotations, the sweet moniker is also an inspiring choice and Lyra is also the name of a small constellation in the northern sky, meaning that it can encourage her to reach for the stars.

Over the years, Lyra has increased in popularity as a baby girl name and between 2000-2019, there were 2,825 UK babies called Lyra, according to research byFlowercard .

What’s more, Janette and Aljaž aren’t the only celebrity couple as of late to name their little one Lyra, with Ed Sheeran naming his eldest daughter Lyra Antartica back in 2020.

Meanwhile, the middle name Rose has Latin origins and refers to the popular flower and, according toBritish Babynames, became one of the 100 most popular baby girl names in England and Wales in 2007.

Following the news of Lyra’s birth, stars from the world of Strictly were quick to congratulate Janette and Aljaž on becoming parents.

Among those who have expressed their congratulations for the pair are fellow Strictly couple Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Márquez, who became parents for the second time just days ago.

“Just wonderful,” wrote Gemma alongside a rose and red heart emoji. Gorka on the other hand commented with three heart eye emojis as well as the phrase “so gorgeous!!!”.

Former Strictly dancer James Jordan also said: "So happy for you both. Sending love from the Jordans" while Oti Mabuse gushed: "CONGRATULATIONS. best news ever."

Professional dancersDianne Buswell andGraziano Di Prima also showed their support, with Dianne posting four heart emojis and the message: “yay so so exciting”. “Congratulations darlings,” added Graziano alongside three heart eye emojis.
