Six burning questions we need answered in the Euphoria finale

The second season of Euphoria – the show the internet is mildly obsessed with – comes to an end on Monday after eight truly wild episodes in which we saw Rue (played by Zendaya) relapse in a devastating fashion; Fez (Angus Cloud) turn into everyone’s favourite anti-hero; Nate (Australia’s Jacob Elordi) become even more like his twisted dad, and Lexi (Maude Apatow) deliver an explosive school play, potentially setting off a chain reaction of devastating events. We doubt we’ll ever get that Nate-inspired locker room scene out of our minds…

Ahead of the final ep, entitled All My Life, My Heart Has Yearned for a Thing I Cannot Name, (in which we’re almost certain creator Sam Levinson is going to throw a grenade among our dysfunctional teens), here are the questions we need answered on Monday.

1. Is Fez going to die?
In the penultimate episode, the internet’s boyfriend Fez, a soft-spoken drug dealer, was last spotted being straight up adorable as he donned a suit and clutched a bouquet of roses ahead of attending Lexi’s play. But as the show rolled on and a single seat remained empty in the auditorium, it was clear he never made it.

With recurring character Custer intent on ratting Fez and his unofficially adopted little brother Ashtray (also a dealer) out to the police, and the promo showing Fez laying on the ground screaming, blood on his shirt, the future is not looking bright for him.

While we pray HBO won’t stomp on the heart of Lexi Howard like that, we can’t deny that Euphoria is overdue a death. That being said, if Fez dies, we riot.

2: Is Rue sober and will she reunite with Jules?
Perhaps providing some of the most uncomfortable viewing of the season, Rue’s intervention in episode six seemed to spell the end of her relationship with Jules and hopefully, her addiction to drugs.

During Lexi’s play, Rue was seen looking relatively healthy (for her anyway), cackling loudly at Nate’s scenes and stealing longing glances across the room at Jules. Will there be a Jules Rue-union (sorry, we had to)? Does this mean Rue is finally clean? Damn, we hope so – our hearts can’t take seeing her relapse again.

3: What happened to the suitcase?
Speaking of Rue and her questionable life choices, we’re going to need to know where that suitcase has gone. You know, the one filled with $10,000 worth of pills that Rue got for her dealer/potential human trafficker Laurie.

After discovering it was missing from her wardrobe, Rue spiralled, stealing jewellery in an attempt to pay Laurie back. But it wasn’t enough, and Laurie creepily reminded Rue that being a woman, there was always a way for her to repay her debt. What do we think happened? It’s most likely Leslie, Rue’s mum, is hiding the suitcase or she flushed the lot down the toilet… which would have devastating consequences for her daughter. Either way, we doubt we’ll ever see it again.

4: Will Lexi ever be happy?
Unlike Kat (we don’t want to talk about it), Lexi has had much more airtime this season, giving us an insight into Cassie’s (Sydney Sweeney) quiet, thoughtful little sister. While we collectively lost our minds over the Fez and Lexi couch scene, it was Lexi’s play that showed a deeper side to her –like how she feels guilt over not speaking up about Rue’s drug addiction and her heartbreak over her dad’s abandonment (him robbing them of their fine China – we cannot!).

The finale trailer shows the crowd chanting Lexi’s name in adoration, and you can literally feel her self-assurance growing. But with Fez’s fate hanging in the balance, and Cassie and Nate looking like they’re out for blood, will Lexi be robbed of her happy ending?

5: Is there going to be a sister-on-sister brawl?
In all likelihood, yes. Cassie is currently a lone ranger after sacrificing her relationship with Maddy to be with Nate. After Nate is portrayed as a gay athlete in Lexi’s play, he abruptly – and aggressively – dumped Cassie, leaving her devastated. Circling back to the trailer you clearly see Cassie on a warpath, throwing fists at someone… and we can only imagine her little sister is on the receiving end. Our money is on Maddy (Alexa Demie) joining the fray.

6: Where is Cal?
Since Cal Jacobs (Eric Dane) effectively blew up his suburban life in episode four, he’s yet to return to our screens (aside from Nate’s disturbing dream sequence).

After learning his backstory, audiences actually felt for Cal – and his lost love, Derek. But we can’t deny his penchant for cheating on his wife, his night with Jules and him exposing his family’s secrets during a booze-fuelled rage. We can only hope Cal returns in episode eight, so at the very least we know he’s alive and hopefully willing to finally be a decent dad.
