Prince Harry’s latest bombshell claims from US interview as he says family are ‘undermining’ him

Prince Harry has hit out at the monarchy as he accused the royal family of trying to “undermine” the release of his new memoir Spare, because it’s explosive content. “perhaps made them feel uncomfortable and scared.”

The claims were made during yet another US TV interview to promote his book, this time on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, as he yo-yoed between tossing serious barbs against the family, and engaging in the show’s more light-hearted jokes.

The Prince even took part in a playful skit during the show alongside Hollywood icon Tom Hanks, where the pair poked fun at the pomp and ceremony of royal occasions, complete with uniformed trumpeters.

However in one of the most serious moments of his lengthy interview, Harry rounded on his relatives as he responded to the backlash his memoir had received, as host Stephen questioned whether or not he believed there had been an “active campaign to undermine this book.”

Harry then responded: “Of course” before going on to add that the “British press” had also been complicit in the “campaign” of hate against him, before Stephen helpfully chimed in “But aided and abetted by the Palace.”

Harry then again responded by saying: “Again of course.”

He then continued: “But this is the other side of the story, right? After 38 years, they have told their side of the story. This is the other side of the story.”

When questioned about what he thought had prompted the backlash, Harry added that “There is a lot in there that, perhaps, makes people feel uncomfortable and scared.”

Here, we take a closer look at the latest bombshells to come out of Harry’s latest interview.

Prince Harry mocks the monarchy with opening skit

In a break from the more serious tone of his recent interviews, Harry fulled embraced a more laid back and tongue-in-cheek sense of humour as he opened The Late Show alongside Stephen Colbert on Tuesday evening.

The 38 year old Duke openly poked fun at the long-standing royal tradition of welcoming royals with a trumpeted fanfare, as he dismissed the usual pomp and grandeur associated with his title.

In the pre-recorded skit, Harry could be seen entering the studio on a red carpet, while two fully uniformed trumpeters heralded his way.

Humbly shrugging it off, the Prince told host Stephen “Woah, woah, woah, stop, stop. Stephen, not needed, but thank you, I appreciate it.”

However in an unexpected twist, the host quickly shot back at Harry with “What are you talking about? This isn't for you!” before quickly urging the royal to “Get out of the way, he's coming!”

In scenes that delighted many fans at home, the camera then cut to Hollywood icon Tom Hanks, as he made his grand entrance instead, sending the audience into a fit of applause and giggles.

Harry reveals he still wears the necklace allegedly damaged in “altercation” with William

In another memorable moment from the interview, Harry confirmed that he still wears the necklace that he alleges was “broken” during a physical fight with his brother William n 2019.

Highlighting his recollection of the event in his memoir, Harry claimed the altercation took place after William had dubbed Harry’s wife Meghan “rude” and “difficult” resulting in a physical tussle.

“[William] grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor,” he wrote.

Now, four years later, Harry has revealed that the necklace was repaired and he still wears it to this day, with the Duke even showing it to Stephen during his interview.

Bringing up the altercation, Stephen asked Harry about the “physical fight”, as he questioned: “There is a lot of talk about the physical fight that the two of you had, where he pushed you down in the kitchen and broke the dog bowl, when you fell on it."

“It says he broke your necklace. What necklace was this that he broke?”

Harry then responded by pulling out a black leather cord from behind his shirt, showing off three silver pendants that dangled from it.

Two of the three pendants were engraved with the heartbeats (cardiograms) of his two children, Archie and Lilibet, while the third, Harry revealed: "a friend in Botswana made for me and which has got a tiger's eye in the middle”

The necklace has been near and dear to Harry for a number of years, with many fans even speculating it may have been a gift from ex-girlfriend Chelsy Davy, who the Prince famously dated from 2004 to 2011.

Duke denies he “boasted” about killing 25 Taliban fighters in Spare

Another hot topic to have come out of Harry’s memoir, was how he discussed his time in Army, notably how he had been responsible for the death of 25 Taliban fighters.

After the story was released in the press, many critics hit out at Harry for “boasting” about killing them, something the Duke directly addressed in his interview on The Late Show.

'I think one of… the most dangerous lies that they have told is that I somehow boasted about the number of people I have killed in Afghanistan,” he told show host Stephen Colbert.

“I would say that if I heard anybody else, anyone, boasting about that kind of thing, I would be angry. But it's a lie.”

He added: “My words are not dangerous, but the spin of my words are very dangerous to my family.”

Defending his decision to share the information, Harry went on to explain that it wasn’t his intention to glamourise or boast about the number of lives he had taken, but to r”educe the number of suicides” among military veterans.

"I made a choice to share it because, having spent nearly two decades working with veterans all around the world, I think the most important thing is to be honest and to give space to others to share their experiences without any shame,” he said.

“And my whole goal, my attempt with sharing that detail is to reduce the number of suicides.”

Harry confirms he still watches The Crown despite inaccuracies

In another bizarrely lighthearted moment, the Duke also admitted he has watched The Crown and continues to do so now, even despite widespread criticism from the royal family about the way the monarchy was portrayed on screen.

“Yes I have actually watched The Crown. The older stuff and the more recent stuff.” laughed Harry with a smile, before Stephen asked whether the Prince has ever “fact-checked” the Netflix show.

Then in a fit of giggles, Harry mimed taking notes before confessing: “Yes, I do actually.”

While acknowledging that the show may not always be entirely factually accurate, Harry then compared it to his own memoir, which he considers to be a source of accuracy, when he said: “Which is why it's so important that history has it right.”

With Harry’s own cheerful response playing out as little more than TV fluff, the Duke's admission that he has watched several episodes of the show, will likely see him the subject of further criticism, given the critical and “sensationalist” portrayal of his parents.

In the latest series of the Netflix smash hit, the show tackled Princess Diana and then- Prince Charles’ divorce, while also addressing Diana’s long standing battle with bulimia.

Series 5, even included an entirely fictional scene in which Charles was seen plotting to overthrow his mother The Queen, in scenes which were widely slammed by both fans and the press alike, not least because the show was released mere weeks after the monarch’s death.

Prince Harry's book, Spare, is on sale now.
