Fitness buff Mark Wahlberg has been hitting the gym to sweat off the 20 pounds he gained for a movie role.
And this weekend he got perhaps the toughest work-out there is — working out alongside enlisted Marines.
Wahlberg visited the Marine Corps Air Station in San Diego, Ca., to cut the ribbon on a new gym on the base with Marines commander Colonel Charles B. Dockery.
The gym uses the F45 Training program, which is a 45-minute high-intensity circuit training class.
Wahlberg is an investor in the system.
After the ceremony, the “Departed” star took a class with active military members.
We’re told Wahlberg flew down on his own dime and spent “three hours taking selfies with the Marines and their families, personally thanking everyone for their service.”
Along with providing a space for military members and their families to work out, F45 also worked with the Department of Defense to create an approved program to help give job training and certificates to active duty service members who are set to be discharged within 180 days and are interested in working with the fitness space.
In a video from the event, Wahlberg says “We are always encouraging people to hire servicemen and women. Their work ethic, ability, and understanding of fitness and training and doing it the right way are invaluable. Hopefully, we’ll have many [veterans as] franchisees, trainers, and people working at the corporate level as well.”
The star — who is known for his extreme workouts — recently gained weight for a role in the upcoming movie “Father Stu,” reportedly packing on 20 pounds in just six weeks.
He told Jimmy Kimmel that his first meal on his weight-gain diet was going to be a “20-piece chicken nugget and 20-piece hot wings from Kentucky Fried Chicken with a six-pack of beer.”
“I want to go bakeries, I want to go to Denny’s, I want to get pancakes,” he continued. “I want to get everything I can possibly get my hands on.”
In the movie, he plays real-life boxer turned priest Father Stuart Long from Helena, Montana. In photos, he appears to have used prosthetics and makeup to complete the transformation.
Wahlberg — who already looks to have slimmed down — also recently hit F45 Training in Hollywood with fellow muscle man Mario Lopez.
