Malta vs England betting preview: Odds and predictions | The Sun

GARETH SOUTHGATE'S England team will look to make it three out of three in their Euro 2024 qualifying group when they take on Malta at the Ta’Qali National Stadium this Friday night.

England have looked comfortable in their qualifying games so far, and Malta, a team that have not registered a win in their opening two games, are not likely to cause too many problems.

Let’s see what the bookies are saying about Friday night’s game.

Malta vs England odds

Here are the latest match odds for Malta vs England:

Malta vs England betting preview

Friday’s Clash will be England’s first outing since the team’s back-to-back victories against Italy and Ukraine in March, and they will be feeling confident that they can make it three for three in Malta.

All expectations are that England will walk all over Malta, who are currently ranked 179th in the FIFA World Rankings. The Maltese have yet to pick up a win in the campaign, but they made Italy work for a 2-0 victory back in March. This disparity in quality is reflected in the odds, with England at 1/25 and Malta all the way out at 40/1 with bet365.

Southgate will probably see the game as a good opportunity to rotate a little bit, with several star plays like Phil Foden, John Stones, and Jack Grealish all being heavily involved in Manchester City’s recent Champions League and FA Cup triumphs. Likewise, Declan Rice recently captained West Ham to glory in the UEFA Conference League and could be rested for the game.

Fortunately, Southgate has plenty of options, and he might look to give Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze his first senior appearance. The likes of Kane, Rashford, and Saka will all likely make the starting 11 to ensure England have plenty of fire-power in attack.

Malta vs England best bets

With not a lot of value on offer in the result market, let’s take a look at some alternative bets that offer value for England’s game with Malta.

Bukayo Saka anytime scorer 20/21 (bet365)

Bukayo Saka has had an excellent campaign for Arsenal, bagging 15 goals in all competitions for The Gunners as they finished second in the Premier League. He also comes into the game on fine form for England.

He has scored in four of his last six games for his country, scoring in his last start against Ukraine, a game he also got an assist in. The game with Malta on Friday night is the perfect game for a player like Saka, who will be afforded plenty of attacking opportunities with the likes of Foden and Grealish rested.

At 20/21 in the anytime scorer market with bet365, this offers good value. He can also be found at 5/1 in both the first and last goalscorer markets.

England -2 handicap at 2/5 (BetVictor)

England will be expected to cruise to victory on Friday night, and many will see anything less than a 3-0+ win as a failure. While a -3 handicap has an appeal at 19/20 with bet365, we are opting to play things a little bit safer at -2 for 2.5.

Malta have not lost a game by more than two goals in ten encounters, though the level of competition has been nowhere near as strong as England. England at 2/5 with a -2 handicap feels like a sensible option to take with BetVictor.

England 3-0 at 5/1

Rounding off our betting tips is a slightly more speculative bet on the correct score market. As the match odds suggest, England are not likely to slip up against Malta, and a comfortable win to nil feels highly likely. At 5/1 with bet365, England to win 3-0 could be worth a punt.
