ITV I’m A Celeb’s jungle rules from three pairs of knickers to smoking

We've been hooked to this year's I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! as we watch our favourite stars take on Bushtucker trails and adjust to life down under. But before they head into the jungle, the celebs are given a strict packing list as they're only allowed to take in three pairs of pants!

We've already learnt a lot about the celebs including Josie Gibson's botched tattoo, but we've also been given an insight into the show's rules and guidelines. Just last week campmates were told off after Fred Sirieix resourcefully used leftovers from their luxurious brunch to spice up their usually bland rice and beans.

The stern telling-off, which came from a jungle letter, saw the celebs having to either bin the tasty dish or consume it before their fellow campmates returned. Despite being full from their winning brunch, they consumed the dish in a bid to not waste any.

This is just one of the rules the stars have to abide by during their time on the hit ITV show. From how many days you have to survive in the jungle before getting paid to not knowing the time, but one thing is for sure, it's come a long way since series one when they banned deodorant altogether.

Advice from former contestants

Before entering the jungle it might seem like a good idea to speak with a former I'm A Celeb contestant to get the load down on what really happens, who may be able to offer some advice. But apparently, it's against the show's rules to tell anyone that you're going on the show before you're officially announced.

A couple of years ago, Emmerdale's Danny Milly reportedly broke the rules by asking his close pal and Coronation Street star Adam Thomas for advice.

Psychological assessments

Before heading onto the show every celeb undertakes a psychological assessment, to ensure they're mentally prepared. According to former cast member Katei Price, it includes questions on "your past, your anxieties, [and] your likes and dislikes".

Three pairs of pants

This is one rule that shocked us the most, as campers are only allowed to take in three pairs of knickers, just THREE! No wonder we can often see washing hanging around the camp and fire.

EastEnders star Rita Simons, who entered the jungle in 2018, confessed to sneaking in extra pants during her time on the show. She said on This Morning: "I smuggled in extra knickers. You’re allowed three pairs of knickers… Three pairs. I smuggled more.’ Ooh, rebel."

No sense of time

Just like Love Island, the contestants aren't allowed to know the time while on the show. The reason behind this is thought to be a similar reason to Love Island – so they can get the full experience and lose all sense of time.

Former Love Islanders, Danny and Jourdan spoke to Capital about the change in clocks and said it left them "basically clueless". Danny said: "Obviously we're completely unaware of the time, but there's been nights when we get into bed and the sun is literally coming up… And then you're up about five or six hours later and it's like dinner time."

Pay day

Contestants have been known to receive a hefty payment for stepping into the jungle with different celebs being paid different amounts, depending on their level of fame and popularity with audiences. This year, Nigel Farage is reportedly securing an eye-watering £1.5 million fee for his appearance, while This Morning host Josie Gibson was said to have been offered a six-figure "mega deal".

But the celebs must stay in the jungle for at least three days in order to get their whopping payment. Gemma Collins left the show after just three days, we wonder why…

Deodorant ban

When I'm A Celeb first launched in 2002, those unfortunate celebs weren't allowed deodorant. Apparently, the production team complained that the stars smelt and so from series two, it was allowed into camps.

Smoking

While we don't condone the habit, according to insiders, you can smoke in the jungle if you wish to. However, we imagine this is done far away from camp and wouldn't be aired.

I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
