I had my heart set on a quiet Christmas but my husband has other plans | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: DESPITE having my heart set on a quiet family Christmas, my husband has invited our friend to spend it with us.

I feel like a right old scrooge, but I really don’t want him to come.

I’m 32 and my husband is 34. After years of hosting, I finally decided to have a hands-off Christmas.

I was so excited to put my feet up and relax, but to my surprise my husband seemed to have other plans.

One day after he came home from seeing our friend, he told me he had invited him around for Christmas dinner.

He said he felt sorry for him because he was going to spend the festive season alone after his recent divorce.

Now I can’t help but dread the day.

DEIDRE SAYS: This is a tricky situation, and while your husband had good intentions it’s important that you assert your boundaries.

Instead of uninviting him completely, perhaps you can compromise and see him for a day around Christmas.

I would also explain to your partner how you feel, and ask him to consult you before dishing out any invitations in the future.
