Kate Middleton called time on a long running family tradition this year.
Prince Louis, her youngest, has an official picture published each year to mark his birthday and 2023 proved no different as the family shared a sweet snap of mum Kate pushing him along in a wheelbarrow.
However, royal watchers noticed that it’s the first time proud mum Kate hasn’t taken his official birthday portrait herself.
For his first, second, third and fourth birthdays Kate shared pictures she personally took of her little one, but clearly decided to let someone else take the reins this year.
When Louis turned one, the family shared a trio of snaps that Kate had taken at home of the baby in a cute maroon and blue knitted jumper.
For his second birthday, mum Kate showed off Louis’ cheeky side as she shared a picture of him messing around with paint in a blue checkered shirt.
When the tot turned three, Kate snapped a shot him enjoying a ride on a bright red bike and when Louis celebrated turning four, she proved her son has a sporty side as she snapped him playing cricket on the beach.
Kate is thought to be a keen amateur photographer and is also the patron of the Royal Photographic Society.
She often posts pictures she’s personally taken of her kids and husband on major milestones, including father’s day and her daughter Princess Charlotte’s first day at nursery.
However, this time around Kate decided to get in front of the camera instead as she pushed son Louis in a wheelbarrow filled with mud and plants.
As the Princess of Wales proved she wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty, her son beamed in a £75 blue knitted Fair Isle jumper at the camera.
For these shots, Kate recruited the expertise of acclaimed portrait photographer Millie Pilkington.
It’s no surprise that Kate trusted the experienced photographer to shoot the birthday pictures, as Millie is widely recognised in the industry for her adorable pictures of kids and teenagers.
Millie is also a longtime favourite of the couple and even acted as the personal photographer behind the scenes at Kate and William’s 2011 wedding.
