Here's our top cash-saving advice for tightening your finances this year — plus find out how to get our Holidays From £9.50

TRYING to make ends meet in January can be tough – and even more so when you have a family to feed.

So all this week Sun Savers is teaming up with Britain’s top bloggers to bring you tips on saving money.

Today is the turn of leading mummy blogger Cass Baily from frugalfamily.co.uk.

Her cash-saving advice is followed by tens of thousands of families who use her ideas to cut costs without compromising on family fun.

Cass said: “Saving money doesn’t have to mean doing without the things you and your family enjoy.

“Just a bit of common sense and some careful planning can free up money to repay debts, save for a rainy day or buy things you didn’t think you could afford.”

Here she offers her tips:

  1. Plan your meals: This is a great way to save cash, especially when you’re feeding a hungry family. Spend a few minutes before you go shopping writing a meal plan for the coming week, write a shopping list and when you shop, make sure that you stick to the list. You can see the savings the day you start.
  2. Cancel unnecessary subscriptions: Older kids’ interests change quickly so ditch what they don’t use, such as magazine subscriptions, gaming memberships or beauty box subscriptions.
  3. Make sure you’re on the best phone contract: Smaller brands such as Giff Gaff have deals with plenty of data for £15 and under and even tell you when you can downgrade your package if you’re not using all you’re paying for. Check if your current provider will match or beat it
  4. Keep an emergency fund: Put aside at least one month’s wage as a safety net. Set up a separate bank account and put spare cash in whenever you can.
  5. Put cash aside for Christmas and birthdays: They happen the same time every year so there’s no excuse not to be ready. Save a little each week and buy what you can during the year.
