Denise Richards revealed she had a tough time coming to terms with her split from Charlie Sheen.
The “Wild Things” star, 51, spoke candidly about her infamous divorce from Sheen, 56, on Wednesday’s episode of “Divorced Not Dead,” Caroline Stanbury’s podcast.
Richards — who filed for divorce when she was six months pregnant with their second daughter, Lola — said that she “felt guilty for splitting up the family unit.”
“I struggled with that for years,” she told Stanbury, 46, who stars in “The Real Housewives of Dubai.”
However, the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum said she felt compelled to file when, “I said to myself, ‘Would I want my daughters married to this man?’ No offense to him but I think he would take that and understand what I’m saying, and that’s when I was like, ‘Well, why am I accepting this?’”
She confessed that the two briefly reconciled after Lola’s birth but split soon after, calling the marriage “very toxic.”
The couple got married in 2002 but got divorced after four years. Richards went on to adopt a daughter, Eloise, as a single parent and in 2018, she married Aaron Phypers.
The actress also revealed that she often told untruths to daughters Sami, 18, and Lola, while the “Two and a Half Men” star waged a very public battle with addictions.
“I did shelter them a lot, and then they started to get to an age where ‘so and so said this,’ and I lied my ass off and covered for him,” she revealed.
“Now as they’re starting to get older, they’re more aware of more things. That’s why I say I don’t know if I did them a disservice when they were younger.”
The couple, who has always had rocky moments, recently butted heads after their daughter Sami joined OnlyFans. Richards followed suit by making her own account.
