Young People’s concerts

Designed as a first-time concert experience, the Aurora Orchestra Young People’s Concerts are fully bilingual English/Spanish events. There is a performance in Brighton on Feb. 26 at The Armory Performing Arts Center (300 Strong St.) at 3 p.m. and two performances on Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at Stanley Marketplace (2501 Dallas St.) in Aurora. This year’s theme is “Shall We Dance” and features classical dance music by composers such as Copland, Dvorak and Khachaturian. The special afternoon for kids and their families includes 45 minutes of music, as well as stories, an instrument “petting zoo” and balloon animals. Gem & mineral show

A dazzling Gem & Mineral Show is coming Feb. 25-27 to the Jefferson County Fairgrounds (15200 W. 6th Ave.) in Golden, under the auspices of the Denver Gem & Mineral Guild. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Attendees will find displays of minerals from around the world, ancient fossils, meteorites, rocks that glow in the dark and handcrafted jewelry. Plus, watch skilled lapidary artists cut gems and create beautiful polished stones. Talk with area rock hounds to learn about local field trips and collecting opportunities. Arvada Winterfest

After two years of cancellations, Arvada’s Winterfest is back. The outdoor, multi-cultural celebration will be at McIlvoy Park (5750 Upham St.) on Feb. 26 and highlights the variety of cultures in the community.
