Yesterday marked Back to the Future Day when on October 21, 2015, Marty McFly, Jennifer Parker and Doc Brown arrived in “the future”. To celebrate the occasion, Huey Lewis attended Back to the Future the Musical in London with franchise co-creator Bob Gale. Fans will know that Huey Lewis and the News wrote and performed the tracks The Power Of Love and Back In Time on the soundtrack of the original 1985 movie.
During the final scenes of Back to the Future the Musical an actor actually portrays Huey.
And Express.co.uk witnessed the singer himself chuckling along at the sight with Gale in the audience.
The pair then joined the cast on stage after being introduced by producer Colin Ingram who wished everyone a very happy Back to the Future Day.
Gale said: “When [Back to the Future director] Bob Zemeckis and I first came to Huey to write a song for a little movie called Back to the Future, Huey said, ‘I don’t know how to write a song for movie!’ Guess what? He did.”
The Bobs asked the singer because they felt Huey Lewis and the News would be Marty McFly’s favourite band.
Huey then spoke to the audience saying: “First of all, what a show right? And what a cast. Amazing. Wonderful, wonderful.
“I lost my hearing a few years ago so I can’t hear the music anymore, unfortunately, but I can still enjoy it and I’m so proud to be a part of this.
“Y’know I live in Montana and people always ask me why and I say, ‘More cheese, less rats!’

Huey continued: “But I care about the planet a lot and it’s my major concern…and I’ve just come from a conference in New York that was about climate change and wasn’t very encouraging quite frankly.
“And I know there’s a lot of other terrible stuff going on in this world and we all have our problems and tribulations.
“But isn’t it fabulous to have wonderful entertainment? And it’s more than fabulous, it’s important because it brings us all together when we’re so divisive these days. Isn’t it nice we can all agree on wonderful entertainment?”
The 71-year-old singer then turned to praise Gale before they shared a long emotional hug on stage.

“And I say for a million reasons. Everything’s good. It’s a good idea, it’s well written, all these things are good.
“But this is the guy who started it all, this is Bob’s story. Thanks for all of this and I’m so happy to be a part of it. Thanks for you folks for showing up and let’s have more great entertainment in the future.”
