A cafe owner blasts a bad review by calling a customer a 'wet wipe'

Owner of Welsh seaside cafe hits back at ‘wet wipe’ customer and brands their two star Trip Advisor review a ‘crock of s***’ after they complained about paying £3.40 for two ‘appalling’ cups of weak tea

  • Café owner called customer a ‘wet wipe’ after receiving bad TripAdvisor review
  • The customer grumbled about two takeaway teas that cost £3.40 at Welsh spot
  • Locals patrons have voiced their support for the establishment and the owner

An owner of a coastal Welsh cafe shared some choice words with a customer after being left a bad review.

Darren Randle, from Rhos on Sea, left an explosive reply to an unsatisfied customer of his cafe and gift shop, Coast Café, after they complained about the price of two ‘appalling’ weak teas for £3.40.

The cafe, which currently has 4.5 stars from 408 reviews on Trip Advisor, is known for its friendly atmosphere and has even won a Travelers’ Choice award.

In his response he told the, now-unwelcome, patron that he had ‘never heard such a crock of s***’.

Owner Darren Randle re-posted a response to the reviewers post after his originaly reply was deleted by moderators

The review was posted in January by cynical customer, lenlenlena, who rated Coast Coast Cafe just two stars and wrote: ‘Called in today to get two takeaway teas…. what an experience, not in a good way.

‘Tea was, well, hot water and milk. Little sign a tea bag had been in. All for a sum of £3.40 for two teas. Having a laugh. Appalling teas. Better off going 100 yards to Forties or the tea place on the front in Rhos opposite this so-called cafe. First time and last time to this cafe.

‘Try alternatives. Rip off or what, and what was supposed to be tea was literally hot water and milk.

‘Price fool me for paying it, but never again.’ (sic)

The scathing two star review advised others not to go the cafe after being appalled by the price of two teas

Darren, not happy with this damning review originally posted a response that was later deleted by Trip Advisor moderators.

In it, the Daily Post reported that he wrote: ‘Jesus I’ve never heard such a crock of s***.

‘Firstly it’s £3.60 and we hardly get bad reviews, unlike taking a look at all your reviews, which you have left other premises giving them bad reviews.

‘People like me and my staff work bloody hard but obviously can’t please a wet wipe like you.

Locals showed their support for Darren and the Coast Cafe on the establishment’s facebook page

‘Hope you find what you’re looking for in your life and stop taking your troubles out on hard working businesses!!

‘Lots of love x’.

In a response following the deletion, Darren went on to hammer home his point, and criticised the site for saying it down saying: ‘WET WIPE’ it’s such a shame my first response has been deleted and yes it may have been a little strong unlike the tea hehe!

‘But I feel business owners should be able to voice their opinion, if the person had popped in and asked for the tea stronger it wouldn’t have been an issue as for the cost people don’t see the overheads and staffing the cost of the take out cup etc.’

After the Cafe shared the exchange on their Facebook page, many locals voiced their disdain for the review, calling it poor taste.

One person said: ‘Ridiculous review always excellent service, smiling helpful staff, Darren has amazing Coast cafe, long may he continue.’

While another touched on the price, saying: ‘I would be happy to pay £3:40 for a brew even though I’m on Universal job credit.’

And a third found the response hilarious, saying: ‘The review was a joke when they complained tea was made in hot water and not good enough – isn’t that how everyone makes tea.’
