Home and Away’s Tane Parata (Ethan Brown) has experienced enough heartache to last a lifetime.
There is, however, more devastation to come.
The Summer Bay favourite is only just starting to get his life back on track following his deadly ordeal at the hands of stalker Anne Sherman (Megan Smart).
But things soon took an upsetting turn when older brother Ari (Rob Ripa-Williams) falsely confessed to the murder of Matthew Montgomery in a bid to protect Mia and Chloe Anderson.
With Ari behind bars, Tane decides to step up, and he pays his sibling a visit in prison.
‘It’s very hard for him,’ actor Ethan Browne told Metro.co.uk. ‘He doesn’t like it one bit and wishes things were different. But he must remain strong for the family.’
Nikau (Kawakawa Fox-Reo), meanwhile, is struggling to deal with the thought of losing Ari, and despite being powerless to change it, he contemplates leaving Summer Bay.
Tane, however, ‘shuts him down’.
He’s determined to help Nikau, and he later explains to Mia that he has a plan. The plan in question, however, involves them leaving Summer Bay for a short while, and therefore Mia and Chloe bid the duo farewell.
Nikau is set embark on a rite of passage, as Tana teaches him about the Taiaha, a traditional Māori weapon.
‘It is a way for us Māori to reconnect with our ancestors and ground us,’ said Ethan.
‘The idea is to bring Nikau focus, strength and to centre him to enable him to be strong for the current family situation and what it might bring.’
Tane is certainly proving himself when it comes to stepping up and being there for his family, but Ethan warned that, despite everything the character has been through as of late, there is ultimately more heartbreak ahead.
‘There’s still more tragedy to come for Tane before the storm clears,’ he admitted.
The question is: just what does this tragedy entail? And how much more heartache can Tane endure?
We’ll just have to wait and see.
