Nikau (Kawakawa Fox-Reo) and Tane (Ethan Browne) have been away in New Zealand, returning Ari’s (Rob Kipa-Williams) body to his home.
When John (Shane Withington) brings them back from the airport, they return to their house and acutely feel the hole that Ari has left in their lives. Mia (Anna Samson) is pleasantly surprised to see them, and Bella (Courtney Miller) is jubilantly reunited with Nikau.
Bella has been looking after Chloe (Sam Barrett) while the family were away, but now she’s excited to spend some time with her boyfriend.
Nikau speaks with Chloe, hinting that the family are strapped for cash after the funeral expenses. Perhaps she could pick up her shifts at the Diner again to help out?
Irene (Lynne McGranger) tries to find some shifts for Chloe, but when she tries to get back into her routine she breaks down and walks out of the Diner. She goes back home and tries to find Bella for support, but the couple are busy in Nikau’s room and Nikau tells her they need space.
The next day, Chloe makes it clear she’s really struggling and couldn’t even finish her shift at the Diner, and Bella and Nikau are wracked with guilt.
They apologise for pushing Chloe into work too soon, and Bella says she will make more time to support both of them from now on.
Although the couple had plans that day, they end up spending them with Chloe, and before too long Nikau realises that he’s either by himself while the girls hang out or it’s the three of them doing things. When will he get to be alone with Bella?
