A content creator has posted a clever DIY hack to kill moss on the drive and on patios. Claire Appleton runs the TikTok account @making_a_home1, where this trick has had over 78K views on the app.
“Do you suffer with moss on your drive or paths? Here’s a cheap, safe way to get rid of it,” they said.
“Pick up some cheap biological washing powder. Pick this seed spreader up on Amazon. Pour the washing powder in. Now spread evenly. Kills the moss and smells cute too.”
Washing powder to kill moss is one common suggestion to deal with annoying plants.
Britons can use a seed spreader to deploy it, or they can simply sprinkle it straight from the box.
It’s also possible to sprinkle it over smaller areas using a spoon. Then the rain will wash away the powder, leaving dead moss behind.
Then use a broom with tough bristles and sweep the dead moss away. It’s important to keep pets away from the drive while using this hack, as the washing powder could harm them.
One commenter vouched for the hack and said: “My dad’s a gardener and swears by this.”
Another suggested: “Bleach mixed with a little water and brush it in. Leave for 15 minutes and jet wash out.”

How to stop moss growing on your drive
The best way to prevent moss from growing on your drive is to deprive it of the ideal conditions for growing. How does one do that? Follow the steps below:
Keep your most dry
Moss likes to grow in damp conditions, and if your drive is damp it will grow here. Try to cover your drive from the rain or create runoffs for rainwater. When watering plants and grass near your drive, keep water away from the drive.
Keep it exposed
Moss enjoys shade, so shaded areas of the drive will be a hot spot. Trim back hedges or plants overhanging the lawn.
Keep it clear
Soil and dirt on the drive will encourage moss to grow. Make sure your drive is clear and clean.
