In Alice in Wonderland, nothing is quite as it seems.
And the same goes for the six-course tasting menu inspired by the famed children’s tale at Six by Nico.
The restaurant, which has locations across the UK, has quickly become a foodie favourite – not least because the menu changes every six weeks.
The new ‘story’, Down The Rabbit Hole promises ‘eye-deceiving dishes’ and a ‘mouth-wateringly magical experience’ – and sure enough, the restaurant delivers.
We’d barely taken off our coats before things got weird, and we were told that once we’d perused the menu, we could eat it.
It’s a little off-putting glancing around the dining room to see everyone else munching into what appears to be a piece of paper, but in Wonderland, anything goes.
And the rest of the menu is just as bizarre.
The first appetiser, the Mad Hatters Tea Party, is a play on a traditional afternoon tea.
Except the sweet scone topped with jam and cream is actually a cheese scone, accompanied with bacon jam and truffle parmesan royale. And the tea? Mushroom broth.
Things get progressively weirder – and yet still delicious – from there.
The rabbit Bolognese which makes an appearance in The White Rabbit appetiser, was also a big hit, and you’ll be surprised by how moreish olive flavoured ‘soil’ can really be.
And don’t be alarmed when your server brings out the mushroom flavoured ice-cream as part of the Learn How To Make Mushrooms desert – we were left wanting more.
And the fine-dining experience even comes with a wallet friendly price tag.
You can enjoy the tasting menu in London’s Fitzrovia or Canary Wharf for just £44 – with an extra £35 if you want to add on the wine pairings.
But elsewhere, in Six by Nico’s seven other UK restaurants, the price comes down to just £37 – with an extra £30 for matching wines.
The Down The Rabbit Hole menu comes to end on 20 November. Visit Six by Nico to book.
