You probably think you have avocado on toast down to a T – how hard can it possibly be?
But with a few nifty tips and tricks, you can upgrade and uplevel your avo toast to new heights.
Olive gave some tips on how breakfast and brunch lovers can make this tasty staple “even better”.
The food magazine’s first tip was to ensure you’re using ripe avocados for ultimate tastiness and creaminess.
According to The Kitchn, the easiest way to tell if an avocado is ripe is by checking the area underneath the stem – peel it back and if it comes away easily / you find green underneath, you’ve got a good avocado on your hands.

If it’s brown underneath, the avocado is overripe. If the stem doesn’t come off, it has yet to ripen.
Olive added that if you gently squeeze your thumb into the avocado and feel it give a little, it’s bound to spread easily on toast.

Olive’s next tip was to properly toast your bread. The magazine said: “It might sound like an obvious statement, but toasting your bread properly makes for perfect avocado on toast.”
The food experts explained that rye bread often takes quite a while to toast, so it’s best to put it down for two toast cycles.
Next, Olive told avo toast lovers to choose their toppings wisely depending on the bread they’ve gone for.
If you’re concocting an avocado, tomato, chilli and coriander mix, sourdough or rye works “really well”. Conversely, smoked salmon works best on a seeded bagel.

If you’re heading down a bacon or chorizo route, Olive suggests going for wholemeal, walnut or cornbread. Olive also revealed that there are several different types of avocado – so select wisely.
Hass is the most popular and is available at most supermarkets. They vary in size, length and colour.
Finally, make sure you stone your avocado correctly. Start by cutting down the middle and rotating, then twist and pull the avocado so it forms two halves. Wedge the blade of a knife (the flat part, not the point) into the stone and pull it out.
