Food recalls are issued when an item is unsafe for some customers to eat. In this case, shoppers are asked to return the product to their nearest store for a full refund.

Lidl is the latest major supermarket to recall a product because it could cause damage to some customers if eaten.

The company is recalling a paella dish because it contains ingredients which are not mentioned in English on the label.

According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA), this means “the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to crustaceans, fish, molluscs, and/or an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents”.

This is because crustaceans, fish, molluscs, and milk are not written in English on the packet.

This means some customers will not be able to read the ingredients and could eat something they are intolerant to.

The product is called Culinea Paella and comes in a packet 750g in size.

Its batch code is L1354-2.

The FSA also outlined its best before date, which is June 20, 2023.

This product is sold only in Lidl Northern Ireland stores.

The FSA continued: “Lidl Northern Ireland is recalling the above product from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

“The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.

“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”

In its notice, Lidl said: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to these allergens, we advise you not to consume it.

“Instead, return the product to a Lidl store for a full refund, with or without a receipt.

“Other Culinea products are not affected by this recall.”

The supermarket added: “Lidl wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

“Any customers with queries or concerns can contact our Customer Service Team on the contact numbers below.”

The Lidl Customer Service number in Northern Ireland is 0800 051 63 63.

Meanwhile, the appropriate number to contact in the Republic of Ireland is 1800 20 10 80.

As for Lidl GB, this branch of the company has also recalled a product in recent days.

The supermarket is recalling its Alesto Californian Pistachios Roasted & Salted because salmonella has been found in the product.

Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea, and abdominal cramps.

Lidl advised customers “not to eat” the product, but to instead return it to their nearest Lidl store.
