Lidl GB has recently recalled a popular sushi box because the product contains ingredients which are not emphasised on the label. No receipt is required to return the product to a Lidl GB store of your choice.
Product details
Select and Go Sushi Box Salmon and Shrimp
Pack size: 330g
Use by: All use by dates up to and including October 11, 2022.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued a risk statement regarding the food recall.
This stated: “This product contains crustaceans, fish, mustard, sesame, soya, egg, wheat (gluten), milk and sulphites making it a possible health risk for anyone with coeliac disease and/or an allergy to crustaceans, and/or fish, and/or mustard, and/or sesame, and/or soya, and/or an allergy or intolerance to egg, and/or wheat or gluten, and/or milk or milk constituents, and/or anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites.”
The FSA explained that Lidl GB would be taking action to protect the health and safety of its customers.
It stated: “Lidl GB is recalling the above product from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.
“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”
Lidl’s point-of-sale notice reads: “Lidl GB is recalling Select and Go Sushi Box Salmon & Shrimp, 330g, with use by dates up to and including 11.10.2022 due to incorrectly declared allergens.
“This product contains the following allergens; fish, crustaceans, milk, egg, sesame, soy, wheat, mustard and may contain sulphites.
“If you have bought the above mentioned product and have an allergy or intolerance to one of the above mentioned allergens we advise you not to eat it.”
The notice explained that customers should return the product to a Lidl GB store – with or without a receipt – and assured them that no other Select and Go products are affected.
Lidl GB also offered an apology for any inconvenience caused by the latest food recall.
The FSA advised: “If you have bought the above product and have coeliac disease and/or an allergy to crustaceans, and/or fish, and/or mustard, and/or sesame, and/or soya, and/or an allergy or intolerance to egg, and/or wheat or gluten, and/or milk or milk constituents, and/or anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites do not eat it.
“Instead, dispose of it or return it to the Lidl GB store for a full refund.”
While food recalls are not common, they should be taken very seriously when they are issued.
The FSA explained: “Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold.
“Then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).
“Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk.
“When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.”
