Pizza or a balanced meal? It might surprise you to hear that more people are opting for the latter.
Takeaway culture is shifting – previously seen as a ‘treat’ and a justification for an ‘unhealthy’ meal, now takeaways are more commonplace in our fast-paced lifestyles.
The abundance of food outlets and platforms – like Uber Eats, Deliveroo and Just Eat – means they’re easy to get, and not just saved for a special day.
But that means more people are looking for variety from their meals, and some are ditching the dirty burgers, fries and wings, and going healthy.
According to Uber for Business, healthy food orders have doubled since 2019.
On Uber Eats alone since July 2022, there has been a total of 2,800 healthy food orders per day, compared to just 1,800 in 2021, and 1,400 in 2020.
The brand also spotted a significant rise in interest in eco-conscious food, with meat-free orders increasing by 562% since 2019 in larger UK cities.
Uber put this shift down to the increase in hybrid working too, which has become far more normalised since the covid pandemic.
Their research shows more are prioritising speed, variety, and flexibility in their meal choices.
There’s a clear link between people working either hybrid or back in the office, and the volume of food orders.
Just under two-thirds of Uber’s food orders happen during the week.
A fifth of these orders occurred on Thursday, as this can be a popular day for staff to be in the office.
Maybe it’s time to give the pizza a break in favour of something more green.
