These baby names are at risk of going extinct after NO ONE was called them in 2022… how safe is your name? | The Sun

BABY names are just like fashion trends – they come in and drop off every year.

But some have been dubbed “critically endangered” after 2022 saw many once-popular names get no registrations.

Some of the dying monikers will come as no surprise – including Deidre, Donald and Piers – while others are totally shocking.

There were no babies called Britney, Barbie or Kelly in 2022, suggesting an end to the iconic tags held by superstars – most popularly Britney Spears and Kelly Clarkson.

Parenting website BabyCentre told The Mirror that once loved, A-lister names have been shot down to Z-list over the last 12 months.

There were also no Farrahs and Staceys as names with an “American vibe” were most at risk of disappearing.

Baby boomer era monikers such as Sheila, Deirdre and Shirley were thin on the ground too.

Among boys, no Cliffs, Nigels or Harold were born in 2022.

Old-fashioned boys' names like Rhett, Brent, Quinton and Giles were similarly snubbed by modern parents.

Only one baby boy was called Donald this year and zero were called Piers as BabyCentre has declared the pair – held by the former US president and a famous British journalist – as endangered.

However, there is hope yet as some names snubbed in 2021 saw a resurgence this year.

Four babies were given the name Dwayne despite it seeing a nil count in 2021.

Vintage name Maude was bestowed upon one child despite experts fearing it may die out after having no registrations last year.

Sarah Redshaw at BabyCentre UK told The Mirror: “These names might have fallen out of fashion, but they could make a great choice for your newborn.

“They’re familiar but it’s unlikely there will be another boy or girl with the same name in your child’s class.

“Parents looking for cool and unique choices might want to put Farrah and Rhett on their shortlists.

“It’s no surprise that Donald is meeting the same kind of fate after the last US president’s controversial time in office.”

The BabyCentre found that the top three girls names of 2022 were Sophia, Lily and Olivia.
