Serena Williams Covers Vogue in a Sleek Bodycon and Slip Dress

Serena Williams is officially “evolving away” from tennis. On Tuesday morning, the mega-athlete announced her retirement alongside a stunning fashion moment — on the cover of Vogue’s September 2022 issue with her daughter, 4-year-old Olympia Ohanian, a style star herself. Wearing a sleeveless Balenciaga bodycon dress in a sky-blue hue, Williams posed with ease and confidence. The grand, sweeping train extended beyond the magazine’s fold, revealing Ohanian adorably holding onto the bottom of her mother’s gown on the other page. Against a picturesque beach backdrop, the tennis pro’s royal-blue Bulgari High Jewelry earrings completed the beautiful look.

Styled by fashion editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, the serene photoshoot showcased Williams in a variety of sleek, simple gowns paired with a pop of statement jewelry. In one striking image in the spread, the tennis champion wore a light-blue Sergio Hudson slip dress that featured a long, asymmetrical train, which she complemented with pearl drop earrings from Fernanda Jorge. She also donned two different white gowns — a fitted one-shoulder Ralph Lauren Collection dress with a slit and a standout backless number from Danielle Frankel — as well as a custom crochet dress by Wales Bonner. Finally, she rounded out the spread in a colorful look, a peach-and-pink dress with side slits from Gucci’s Exquisite collaboration with Adidas.

Neither Williams nor Ohanian is a stranger to appearing in Vogue, as this marks Williams’s fourth cover and her mini me’s second. Ohanian was the youngest person to ever grace the magazine back in 2018 at just 3 months old. In this latest cover’s accompanying interview, the tennis star opened up about her retirement, sharing her plans to grow her family and focus on her venture capital firm, Serena Ventures.
