People say there are rules for decorating my council house but I don't listen - I know how great my taste is

A WOMAN has hit back at the "rules" people assume are in place for council houses, insisting she'll decorate hers just how she wants.

She took to her TikTok page to show the transformation of one of the small bedrooms in her council home.

The room began with plain wooden walls, that had paint splatters on them, while there was striped wallpaper on the other side.

"You can’t put panelling in a council house, they said," she wrote over the video.

She then showed how she'd used strips of MDF to create a panelling effect on the back wall.

"You can’t paint a small room dark blue, they said," she added.

"Oh but you can!"

The woman then showed the room as it looks now – with dark blue, panelled-effect walls.

The bed was also transformed, and a velvet headboard added to give the room a luxe feel.

"There’s no rules! Council or owner, pick your own tastes," she captioned her video.

People were quick to take to the comments section to weigh in on the transformation, with one writing: "You can do what you like in a council house.

"Only things you have to get permission for is a new bathroom or kitchen.

"Nice job tho."

"wow what a difference! it looks amazing," another added.

"I have one of those stair monstrosities in my box room!" someone else commented.

"Turned it into a platform bed!"

To which the woman replied: "Yeeeees!!! I NEED to do this! I think that’s my next move in this room."
